Ever wondered where you can find the cheapest pizza in Austin?
The answer isn’t so clear cut unless you do some math. Did you know, for example, you consume more pizza in an 18” size than 2 pizzas at a 12” size combined?
I understand that quality varies between these spots, but that’s not the point of the post. I’m simply talking the cheapest when you consider price per square-inch.
I’m also strictly talking surface area. I understand some pizzas are thicker than others, but that data isn’t easily attainable.
Anyway – here is a list of most of the spots in town, boiled down to the top 50 reviewed!

Much’d appreciated and a good day to yous
Does this guy know how to pizza or what?!
this is awesome. i’ve done the arpeggio big pizza several times for kids parties since it is good bang for the buck. i assume you include domino’s/caesar’s as a baseline, but i feel it is worth mentioning the costco pizza at $9.95 for an 18 inch pie, which would be close to $0.04/square inch.
This is awesome!
Not surprised Bambino is the most expensive and imo also the worst on the list
Call me crazy, but I feel like you gotta factor in the height too. Some of those slices super thin.
Someone asked me about best bang for your buck on this list and maybe it’s Market Street Pizza. It’s 4.7/5 on Yelp with 279 reviews and is #5 on the value list. Though I have never been, so I can’t vouch. Anyone care to chime in?
Nikki’s is awesome. Been going there forever
Costco for the win!
Happy to see Niki’s still being cheap af. I used to go so often
Look at what Austin has come to 🤣. A metric breakdown of pizza cost by slice/size
This is absolutely amazing and almost borders on dystopian
Go to Favorite Pizza from Sunday through Thursday and for $5 more you get a pitcher of beer with that pepperoni pizza.
Jersey Giant slaps so incredibly hard.
Excellent work!
May not be Austin but if you pay in cash you can get an extra large cheese from Nikis Pizza for like $15. Is it artisanal? No. Is it authentic New York style? No. Is it damn good for a cheap price? Absolutely
Do you work in data science or as a data analyst or something similar? This is so interesting and I feel like at its core it’s analyzing (pizza) related data and then telling a pretty cool story about how not to be a f&cking idiot when it comes to throwing away money on pizza.
You should throw Milano’s on there. Their 16″ with pepperoni is $15.99.
Saccone’s? It’s one of the better NY/NJ style joints in town.
I would love to do this for a standard coffee order I make.
iced vanilla coffee with almond milk. The difference in price/oz from various places seems wild just from me looking at it but I would like to chart it out like this.
Reale’s Italian Cafe (13450 Research Blvd) 16″ pepperoni pizza $19.79… as I recall it’s a few bucks off on Mondays
Almost $30 for a 16” pie is criminal
No Brooklyn Pie Company 🙁 Next time we order one, I’ll take a tape measure to it and report back.
I’ve delivered one of those Arpeggio big boys. Had to put it in my trunk because of the shape of my car doors, I couldn’t fit the box in the back seat without tipping it precariously.
Haven’t tried their pizza yet but it smelled damn good.
Love this.
Jets pizza is also really good for the price and since it’s thicker you get more munch per square inch.
Would be nice to incorporate thickness into the equation. Essentially in^3 instead of in^2. A Chicago/Detroit style gets you a lot more than a NY style
Local slice is really slept on TBH
Is it possible to get this in terms of like a scatter plot of yelp reviews vs price or a bar chart ranking the price per square inch, like you mention?
HEB’s South Flo Pizza 16″ Pepperoni is $11 so roughly $.054. Thank you for doing this btw.
Thank you for sharing this! Can you do it with burgers, too? I feel like this needs to be published on more than just reddit
This is incredible and I love it
marco’s pizza pepperoni magnifico is $9.99 right now and it always hits
OP is a hero for this!
this is amazing thank you
This is probably my favorite post on this subreddit! Thanks for including your methodology!
Nice job. You could increase the information density with a scatter plot, area or diameter on one axis, price on the other, constant values of $/sqin represented by lines or curves. Or share the data and I’ll share my attempt.
Essentially $40 for ONE pizza. That thing better give me a happy ending.
$13 for a large at HEB Hancock.
This is very interesting. Thanks for making it
Numero28 has always had a place in my heart.
Doing God’s work right here – I have sooo many places to order pizza from now!!
