Crisp Meat Burrito Recipe|Taco Time Copycat|Air Fryer|Cook’s Essentials
Today I’m going to try and replicate Taco Times’ Crisp Meat Burrito. But instead of frying it in oil like it is traditionally done, I will be using the air fryer.
I did find one copycat version online and added a few ingredients of my own that I thought should be in there. So come along with me and let’s see how these crisp meat burritos turned out!
The air fryer I’m using is the Cook’s Essentials 5.3qt.

[Music] we are going to be making crisp meat burritos in the airfryer today I don’t know how many of you are aware or have a taco trying in your area they’re only in about nine states I believe but I know some of you that are watching know what I’m talking about taco tine is well known for their crisp meat burritos and today I’m gonna try to copy that recipe they are traditionally deep fat fried but we are going to do them in the airfryer today you want a deep fat fry then go right ahead I did go online to see if there was a copycat version of these there was one I did that and then I added a few things on my own and well you are just going to have to watch the video to find out but I have going on here I have about a half a cup to two thirds cup of water and I put one of these beef boo-yan cubes and and dissolved it so the spices I’m going to be using I got a heaping tablespoon of dried minced onion you can use fresh half a teaspoon of ground cumin 1 teaspoon of chili powder and about 1/8 of a teaspoon of salt I didn’t want to put too much salt because this bullion is pretty salty I have one clove of finely minced garlic I’m going to go ahead and add all the spices into our wet ingredients [Music] go ahead and mix that all up here real quick okay before I turn on the heat we are going to put our meat in and broth mixture the reason why I don’t want to turn on this heat yet because I want a certain texture to this meat I know taco playing does this I have one pound of 80% use what you would prefer doing this I’m actually going to start off with some of this before I pour it all in so doing this will give us a different texture of the meat and it’s going to help give us a nice fine crumble so I’m gonna go ahead and this kind of my meat this google little frozen I’m just going to go ahead and smash this meat up a little bit to break it loose okay I’m going to go ahead and add the rest of our be flu Leone mixture plus all the good stuff is on the bottom in a way so we needed that so I’m going to brown this up cook it and I’ll be right back okay our meat is done I’m just going to go ahead and strain this now you can put it through your strainer or colander I’m just going to use a slotted spoon I have here I have some flour and add some water so we got a thick paste we’re going to use this to help seal up our tortillas now I’m going to add a little bit of Mexican style shredded cheese to this taco time their burritos so cheese is really not obvious in there so it’s not like a whole buttload of cheese so I’m just going to add it directly into the meat it’s really not going to be that much at all and certainly if you want to add more you’re right in it this is your burrito again I’m just trying to replicate top of Tiny’s crispy meat burrito so I’m just going to take 1/4 of a cup okay I have one of these that I just did I want to show you the size that is about the size of a Taco Time Chris meat burrito I’m using I’m using 8 inch flour tortillas which I wish were a little thinner it would work better we’re going to add some of our meat we do not want to over do it because we want these to be nice and thin leave about a half an inch on the ends [Music] okay we’re going to bring this over tuck it in tight towards the meat filly and then we’re going to roll it up now we’re going to take some of our flowered pace that we have here just go along just like that I only made three up could have gotten a couple more in here now I am going to spray this with olive oil and I’m going to spray it pretty good [Music] all right let’s go pop these into the air fryer I’m going to start off for five minutes on 400 degrees and we’re going to go from there are five minutes is up let’s take a peek okay I’m going to go a little longer on this side and I am gonna spray these a little bit more with olive oil we’re starting to get a golden brown again I’m probably gonna go okay I’m going to go another five minutes I’m going to check this every few minutes nine days flip them I will certainly let you know all right I went the whole ten minutes I mean by this check in between that’s what we got going on I am going to turn these over probably don’t have to but I’m going to you’re just going to go two minutes on the other side at 400 degrees all right I did cut the end off from my thumbnail picture sure does look like a taco time Chris meat burrito and I’m very anxious to try this you know oh my gosh that is pretty dang close if you have a topper time in your area and want to make this get one of their taco sauce packets and put it in the meat mixture I would do it after it’s all cooked because they really think that would be the key ingredient to this are oh my goodness but that is so darn close without it so I hope you liked this video if so please give me a thumbs up also at the m and subscribe please consider doing so and hit that Bell down below that will notify you and I have a new video up thank you for watching and I will see you soon [Music]

That looks delish ! Its like a Taco Spring Roll , two of my most'us Fav's .
Oh yeah definitely that garlic I was sure it had some white pepper in it and I know it has a little bit of cheese also I like to look up how to get the tortillas up to par where most people don't make them right that was sure it had like that some chopped herb like cilantro also love that Taco Time hot sauce also sirloin has a good deep earthy flavor no yes I long ago recommended adding the hot sauce to the meat mixture
I am so excited to Try!!!! My Favorite Burrito in the World is Taco Time Crispy Meat Burrito!!! Will have to try making the zucchini tortilla to try with this (Darn Carbs) Love your Productions of your wonderful videos! Thanks so Very Much!
Try them with a ranch sauce. So good! Thanks for the video.
I’ll have to try this. I have a taco time by my house and love their ground beef mixture.
I made mine but I don't know that sauce, I mean the red one
They look legit, but is this a close spice blend in terms of flavor?
Love this thank you I these things
As the former Ames taco time assistant manager you are very close on the recipe just a few ingriendients still messing 3 important items.
yes! i worked at a Taco Time in Ames Iowa when i was in high school.
Omg…soooo good! I don't have an air fryer so I used my convection oven…worked perfectly! Thank you
Kelly i seen your cute self around Ames😍 let me get your snap kelly 😏
Thanks for this! We have Taco Time restaurants in our city and I love their crispy beef burritos! I found some uncooked tortillas in the cooler of our grocery store and they are thinner. They cook up almost like Taco Time's, but I did fry them in oil. Don't know how they'd work in an air fryer. Thanks so much!
This doesn't look like a Taco time crispy meat burrito. I used to work there, and I was one of the original crew that opened the main company store right next to the Taco Time head offices in Eugene, Oregon. I made the crisp meat burrito mixture, which was the same as the steam table meat mixture, except the crisp meat burritos, they added a #10 can of cheese sauce about 10 lbs of ground beef. The meat seasoning mixture came in a shiny metallic-looking bag that was made by Taco Time. We used to occasionally buy a seasoning from the manager so we could take it home.
Also, when I worked there, we tucked in both ends of a large flour tortilla, and Taco Time several years later started only folding 1 end, then eventually left both ends upon so they could make them smaller and they would still look bigger. The best way is to fold BOTH ends, and deep fry them. Tucking in each end keeps the oil out of the meat mixture.
I will make a video on how to make these EXACTLY like Taco time used to do it, since I have been thinking about doing this for a very long time.
I love taco time!
Just tried this, and OMG it’s so good! You might have “left out 3 important ingredients”, to me this is good enough! Saving me a half hour trip when I’m craving one…
OMG!!! Thank you! I just made these using peanut oil and lard in a wok (not deep, deep fried). Really, really good! I used to look into buying a Taco Time franchise so I could have their crisp meat burritos in Southern California. (Franchises are expensive; who knew?)
Now please do their salsa, wink, wink. In the olden days of the early 80's, they added a little of the meat drippings to their salsa.
Taco Time is primarily in the Northwest US (Washington, Oregon, & Idaho, with a few locations in Utah.) As an Uber Driver in Boise, Idaho, I point out to out-of-town college students that TT is FAR superior to Taco Bell, in case they haven't tried it. Crisp Meat Burritos are a fave of mine. However, I don't think they use the entire tortilla to make them. Once it's rolled past the mid-point of the widest width, the rest of the tortilla isn't needed, and they trim it off to make the "Crustos" (coasted with Cinnamon/Sugar.)
Thanks Kelly! I just bought my first air fryer, & was wondering how these might do in it. I've always deep fried them, & was looking to "de-fat" them a bit. I'm sure the texture is a bit different, but those look amazing! I'm rolling mine up now, so we shall see =) Appreciate you posting your efforts, thanks again. ~Samantha in AZ
I'm from story city and miss taco time SO MUCH!! when the ames store closed we bought dozens of the crisp burritos and put them in our freezer. Needless to say they didn't last long lol. Iv been craving some for so long! So glad I came across this video! Gonna make some today! 🤞 they satisfy my cravings!
American ground beef looks weird…
Taco Time is the BEST!!! I miss them.
TacoTime is popular in Canada.
Just tried these and so good!
Thank you for this recipe, Kelly! I just finished rolling up a batch of these to make for dinner tonight. The aroma of the meat cooking on the stove instantly took me back to Ames and that tiny little restaurant. ❤
I'm originally from Portland, Oregon. I remember going to Taco Time as a kid and my favorite thing on the menu was the crispy meat burritos. The crispiness from the fried meat on the outside made the first and last bites always my favorite part about eating them. I've lived all around the world, and now I've settled in the DMV area. I went o their site and they have one supposedly coming soon around the Baltimore area, but I've been missing these things forever and I don't have the patience lol. So glad that I found this video!
Hahaha…"A butt load." But no cheese?
For low carb try Mr.Tortilla
