This is part 2 of a previous post I made a couple weeks ago, following my first visit to Japan back in February. You can find it here
So, after spending 5 days in Osaka, the next stop on my trip was Fukuoka. I liked Fukuoka but the bad weather kept me from fully enjoying my time there. I spent 2 days and a half, and got the chance to eat 4 bowls. I tried to visit as much must-try tonkotsu shops, I barely didn't steer away from that style. I went to:
Hakata Issou: Very funky bowl with super strong pork flavor and smell. The soup clings to the thin noodles so well.
Kokinchan: Fukuoka has a lot of yatai, and I wanted to try the yaki ramen at Kokinchan. Great stuff, but the line to sit at the stall was crazy long. Still though, cool experience and tasty food.
Hakata Genki Ippai: My favourite tonkotsu from the whole trip. Super clean taste, the broth is super milky and the curry kaedama pairs so well with it. From these, I think this shop is the one I'd go back to every time in Fukuoka.
Ikkousha: This one is in the middle of Genki Ippai and Issou in terms of porkiness. Very nice, and they have multiple locations in Fukuoka, very conveniently placed.
I would've liked to try more bowls, but I was knocked out after each one of these. Plus, I didn't get to walk around a lot because of the bad weather.
Again, I'm posting extended reviews on r/rameninjapan as well as my IG page @/ramen.dev for each shop, as well as sharing the ramen I cook and eat! I'm not super disciplined so I don't post regularly, I'm a bit slow on Instagram… But if you're interested, you can check it out 🙂

Looks amazing. Need to make my way down there.
Hurry up with part 3 😭
How’d you end up picking these 4 out of the hundreds? I ended up at Shin Shin, and while a solid and good bowl, it didn’t floor me
Seem like Fukuoka is less diverse in terms of of Ramen. It is always Tonkotsu
