I don’t know how I ever grilled without these

I have an Akorn grill. Yesterday I smoked for the first time (12 hr 5 lbs brisket, delicious), today I grilled chicken thighs. Having a grill prrobe and a meat probe makes it all make so much more sense. I was able to maintain 240 +- 20 F for 13 hrs yesterday, today I controlled the heat at 400 for the thighs. So easy!

A good thermometer is key, especially with smoking

For real BBQ, I get it. But for grilling, it’s just 😕

No shame in the game and I use one all the time!👊🏼

Battery life makes it almost unusable. I go through 4 batteries each session. 2-3 hours.

I never thought to look for a third party thermo. The one that came with my Traeger completely sucked , it was off by a mile .

Honestly, getting a multi probe thermometer was the catalyst for me going from burgers and dogs to smoking steaks, turkeys and pork butts

Edit: my dumbass said smoked steak when I meant brisket lol

I had that one for a while, after some heavy use it started spitting out temps that were way off, had to buy a signals. It’s cheap, and it worked great for a year or so, but then it pooped the bed. Just make sure you’re using an instant to double check.

And, in fairness, I smoke pretty much every weekend, rain or shine, so taking out the snow time it was a few hundred smokes before it died. That’s a pretty good ROI for the $40 bucks it cost, and it was great while it was working.

I’m not sure I like the aps that come with the more expensive ones, and that one could connect really easy in real time all over the house. If still recommend for anyone that is starting out. Bang for the buck, it was a good deal. Just know, there’s a clock on it. It will give up on you eventually.

I love them but most probes don’t do well in high heat (grease fires). I have had a couple. Usually replace them as opposed to buying a bunch of replacement probes. Wi-Fi rechargeable version work best from my experience. Also if you smoke get one with high and low alarms. I like to do long cooks overnight and actually get some sleep. I hate to host the next day with little sleep.

I finally used mine to monitor the temps in my Weber while smoking a chuck toast the other night. It’s been sitting unused in the storage bin. What I noticed right away is how wildly the temperature changes from just tapping the vents open or closed a tiny bit, it really opened my eyes to that. I managed to keep it pretty low and steady and had a nice piece of smoked meat at the end of the night. I’m certainly a fan now.

I use this exact model and it’s a lifesaver. Set your parameters (alarms) properly and overnight smokes can be a piece of cake!

100% they are a game changer.

    They make it easy mode.

I need to get an offset stick smoker and try out the automatic fans too just because.

Probably used to use your intuition and accept the potential imprecision, which will still be important even with this device

  15. My only problem with thermopro is after the 1st use you can no longer tell which probe is which color. All the bands are the same now.

Yup total game changer when smoking pork shoulder or ribs. It’s nice to know grill temp and protein temp

What I like is that it’s not on the internet or blue tooth and takes regular batteries. The remote thing has pretty good range too.

Just finished an 11 smoke with the two probe one of these. 3 pork butts done perfectly. Funny enough, the alarm went off as I was checking them for the last time. Still, was fun to watch the temp rise as I was watching baseball in ac

  19. I have the $15 version of this and it really upped my steak game.  No more guess work

I just got this same one a month ago. Absolute game changer. Love that thing.

Just bought this exactly model, can’t wait to try it
    out!

Question for yall: if I set it to an internal temp of 135 for steak, do you pull it at 135? Or a little earlier?
