This is simply what we call “melegszendvics” or hot sandwich around here, perfectly sane and respectable. Put some ham or salami on it for something extra and sprinkle some oregano on top of the cheese… hmmm… I have to go, I have things to do.

Where I’m from we call those pizza bobs. Usually would have pepperoni too. Sometimes open face like that, sometimes a closed sandwich. I have fond memories of a friend’s bday party where we made them over a campfire with cast iron sandwich clamp things.

Personally don’t think this is a crime. We do this using English muffins all the time because it’s so much easier than having a pizza stone and warming it up and going through the whole process.

Honestly these were the best! When my dad made them it was even better. He would get back in the day Texas toast for a dollar at the discount bakery. He would add some sauce and a dollop of cream cheese with his cheese he used to grate. Then sprinkle Goya adobo. It was top tier for us kids. He worked nights so the days he was in charge of dinner it was either some Cuban peasant style food or some weird version of an American dish he knew we loved. Miss him so much.
