10 cooks in and a gentle rub scraped the paint off. It was getting sticky. I realize it’s only an aesthetic thing but would you/could you warranty?

The control tower winds up looking like a bag of crunched assholes in pretty short order. Don’t worry about it. It’s just developing character 😉

It’s as if you are lighting fires inside the Kamado for some reason. It’s a cooker, use it as such.

  3. the_y_combinator

The next one will do the same.

It is a grill. It is going to get dirty.

From what I’ve seen on here, yes they would probably send you a new one. And it would happen to the new one quite quickly as well. Mine is two years old and looks terrible

  5. Gritsgravy

Mine looks like that too. I dont worry about it as it doesn’t seem to rust. Unlike some of the washers for some reason.

  6. Rebornxshiznat

Normal,  could warranty it but the new one will do the same

I replaced mine after a few years with a smokeware cap. Love it so far. Smokeware cap is stainless so it won’t corrode and look terrible

there’s an aftermarket stainless one that is dishwasher safe. I don’t have it so can’t comment. My original looks like crap. I scrape and beat it occasionally so crud doesn’t fall on my food.

Also the same myself, it’s all good. No smoker beauty pageants for us.

Yours looks amazing compared to mine. I bought mine used so I can’t even do a warranty claim but it doesn’t affect the grilling

I think I’m going to take some nail polish or something to paint the marks on mine. It gets beat up and abused.. soon it will be a greasy mess with the paint gone

I had the same issue and they did replace it for me. I still haven’t taken the new one out of the box, but it’s great to know KJ stands behind their product.

I’ve had two replaced under warranty. The powder coating melts off.

    Buy a smokeware steel one

  13. average_zen

Yup, every one. I did see here where a dude had his sandblasted down to just the raw aluminum.

  14. Hot-Steak7145

No that’s normal. Its aluminum under there it won’t rust or degrade being exposed. Every black heat painted aluminum part with eventually flake on the joe. Doesnt effect how it works

  15. bamatuktuk

As others mentioned, I did warranty it and the new one last around the same amount of time. But now I have 2 if something else breaks

Sherwin Williams sells a high temp option you can sand it down and re spray it if you want.

My one looks totally messed up from smoking. It will just get worse but is totally normal. Losing battle so don’t despair!

Just wait. It just gets crunchier with time
