Make the perfect classic pound cake EVERY SINGLE TIME! It’s pound cake 101 and I’m going to walk you through every step! Pound cake is such a versatile dessert! It makes a great layer in dessert trifles, grilled for summertime strawberry shortcakes, or simply eaten plain or with fresh berries! I prefer it plain Jane or topped with hot, buttery peaches or syrupy strawberries and mounds of homemade whipped cream.

HOW TO MAKE THE BEST POUND CAKE RECIPE
Preheat oven to 325 F. Grease a 10-cup bundt cake pan with a thin layer of shortening (I use butter-flavored shortening for this. It gives the crust a nice golden crunch and buttery flavor) and then very lightly coat it with flour. Set aside. (If using loaf pans use two 9.5 loaf pans)
In a large bowl add sifted flour, baking powder, and salt. Whisk together well to make sure all of the dry ingredients are combined. Set aside.
In another large bowl, cream together butter until fluffy.
Add sugar gradually while mixing at low speed until combined and fluffy. Mix for three minutes (set timer)
Mix in eggs one or two at a time just until combined. Keep your mixture on low speed.
Mix dry ingredients into wet ingredients while alternating with the whole milk. Start and end with the dry ingredients. Mix until batter is combined and fluffy. Keep the mixer on low speed. Be sure to scrape down the sides of the bowl.
Mix in the vanilla extract and lemon extract.
Spoon batter evenly into prepared bundt pan. Shake and tap the pan on the counter to even out the batter and release any air pockets.
Place on the middle rack and bake for 1 hour and 10-20 minutes until a cake tester or toothpick inserted into the pound cake comes out clean.
Place pan on a cooling rack until it is cool enough to touch but still warm.
Carefully remove the cake from the pan and place it on a wire rack to finish cooling.
Slice the cooled cake and serve. *Remember pound cake is one of those desserts that gets better the next day.

Cooking up Southern charm, one recipe at a time.

My name is Monique, and I started Divas Can Cook back in 2009 when I noticed a shortage of authentic Southern recipes like the kind I made with my grandma in her kitchen. I’m talking about that Elberton, Georgia cooking infused with North Carolina Appalachia flare. (Hey, I’m a Southern mountain girl; what can I say!) Authentic golden fried green tomatoes, hamburger steak, cornbread, biscuits and gravy, forgotten tea cakes, and fresh blueberry cobblers are the recipes that feel like home.

This channel is full of authentic Southern family recipes, recipes that I’ve developed and tweaked to perfection, and a few non-traditional ones sprinkled throughout for good luck. I hope that I will not only build your kitchen confidence, but become a trusted source for go-to Southern recipes for you and your family!

  1. I used to make the 1 2 3 4 Pound Cake, not anymore. This is the BEST butter pound cake you can eat. This is a must have on Holidays. Im making one for New Years

  2. I made this today and WOW it was incredibly good! I made it in order to make some strawberry shortcakes for my after dinner desserts. But honestly, the pound cake is amazing by itself!

When the cake was almost done and the batter was slightly loose on top, I added some course sugar on the top and it made and amazing, sweet, cracker topping for the cake. It literally flaked off the top. I usually use store brand butter but I've been using Land o' Lakes butter whenever I bake (which is hardly) lately and I think that's one of the reasons why it turned out so good! Thanks for sharing this recipe and I look forward to trying some more!

  3. it is only common sense to have the ingredients dear! it is asinine to have a cake recipe and not inform one of the ingredients' measure contents…."Ohhh My God!" 😳 common sense 101. OMG! 😲

  4. jus made this cake; it is the BEST pound cake i've ever made! 👏 …next time i will leave out the baking powder. i don't like its after taste.

  5. I made this. Came out good but I would change some things. I wouldn't put in coconut extract, it's too over powering even if you put a tiny bit. Instead of 3 cups of sugar, maybe 2 cups will be fine.

  6. I tried this recipe on Christmas of 2023, and it was a hit. It was sweet but not too sweet, and it moist. Thank you for sharing this recipe with us.

  7. I have a stand mixer that I do believe is not mixing as good as it should. Not sure if I need to use the paddle or the whisk but it seems to not grab the contents at the bottom. Either way, this recipe was delicious. Do you think it would still be good with half the amount of sugar? Don't want to ruin it but curious if anyone's tried that and if so, was it still good? Unfortunately it didn't come out the pan clean and was stuck. Maybe I didn't put enough shortening? This doesn't happen when I use baker's spray. Appreciate the guidance and thanks for sharing this great tasting cake!

  8. Sorry I have to dislike this vid as there’s no measurements…? Howmuch sugar Howmuch flour/ butter?

  9. I made your recipe today! Oh Lawd! The crust is so delicious! I picked a lil bit … I was very tempted! but this is for family so I behaved myself 😍🥰😋

  10. Divas can cook! I followed your recipe and it consistently yielded a winner every time. I now use this as a base for several pound cake variations.

  11. I should have watched your video first. I made this yesterday, I noticed I didn't add enough milk or vanilla, and I hand mixed all the ingredients, but it was still good. I can't wait to try it again and add more milk and buy another hand mixer too. 😁

  12. Looks so good! I just watched the other pound cake recipe. I have a question, which one do you prefer, this one or the one with the butter shortening?

  13. Oh my goodness, this is the BEST pound cake I've ever made! It's totally worth the couple extra steps in the mixing process! It is a keeper for generations to come. Thank you for posting it!

  14. I could not find the recipe on the link … just pages of talking about milk and flour… anything to keep talking
    food bloggere lol

  15. This is literally the best recipe for a pound cake. Everytime I go to a party or to cater for an event, I'm asked to bring this pound cake! Thank you!!!

  16. I love recipes that only call for a few ingredients, but using good cooking technique ends up blowing your socks off at how good such a simple thing can be

  17. Thank you so much for this video and providing the printed recipe. It's June but I'm selecting all my holiday/Christmas recipes now for my gift giving . I hope to make about 20 to 25 pound cakes.
I have one question….can anyone tell me the best way to use a silicone bread mold? Should I spray it first?

  18. I could listen to you talk all day ❤️ you have a beautiful voice and this cake looks delicious!!!! Can’t wait to try it!
