Cut the hole big enough, for the top shelf t be lower, but am comfortable with this height
And the bonus, table was bought used and my existing KJ BJ2 cover works good enough.
Does anyone put anything between the bottom of the kamado and the metal shelf?
I put cedar planks for now, but not sure if needed.

Just to be safe, I would put a set of ceramic feet under the joe to lift it off the steel to prevent warping of the steel or possible cracking of the ceramic.
I don’t think so. As long as there is room for airflow under the bottom, it should be fine. I’ve seen people use concrete blocks. Just not wood because it will get hot and burn.
