I drove past the new Taco Palenque on Braker near Research where Boston Market used to be and saw the “Now Open” sign outside.

The cashier said they opened the doors about two hours before I got there and had a line out the door. Things were pretty normal when I was there, not much of a wait.

Got the Pirata with fideo and a bunch of fresh chips with the salsa bar. Dining room is open til 9pm, drive-thru until midnight.

The manager said they are just waiting on the alcohol license to be approved. Until then she said I could go to the one in Round Rock or Cedar Park for a margarita. I’m good!

We got one opening in P-ville pretty soon, are they any good, or just another taco cabana?

Just picked up my BOGO fajita burrito! 😋
I’ll be there in couple more days when they start serving breakfast! Piratas for breakfast!
I’m sure things will run smoother they’ve only been open a couple of hours. I still ❤️ Taco Palenque!

They’re opening up everywhere up north it seems

I love the chips and salsa bar. The food is hard to beat for the price, open late, employees have always been friendly to me and have an app for ordering. That being said some of the food I just don’t care for and some is really good. Sometimes I get a side of the beans w/tortillas to go and make bean and cheese tacos.

I really enjoy Taco P! Like, it’s not the best ever but it blows most other fast food options away.

The salsa bar is worth the price of admission. Free chips for the win. Love the green salsa and the roasted whole jalapenos.

Awesome, having been eying that waiting for it to open.

Huh you know I never thought of them as a taco c replacement. I tried them over a year ago now and thought it was terribly mid.

They were rated relatively well in San Antonio. I went there a few years ago and it was pretty respectable. Prices were pretty good. I wonder how the Austin location compares because they never are the same.

This looks like dog food. Generously.

That’s not a very flattering photo, but I bet it was 🔥

Waay overpriced low mid. Go some place real. Mexicans work there. They don’t eat there.

I like taco palenque. They fill a niche that not a lot of other places do in the States. Decent, fast food style tacos. Much better hours and consistency than a food truck as well as better speed. Some things to get and some things to skip:

     – their fideo is garbage. Honestly. Like we get knorr brand fideo and cook it at home over eating their fideo
    – their bean and cheese burritos are one of the better priced and tastier options in town
    – imo the piratas are the best tacos they make but are a little pricey for what you get
    – they often run deals on your delivery app of choice. A common meal for me is a 2 for 1 burrito special they’ve been running for months on the delivery apps
    – their salsas are actually quite good. And they are extremely generous with them. For every bean and cheese taco I get on the app I can get three salsa, and only half of 1 salsa is what you need for a taco. My favorite is the roja but the tomatillo and the avacado are also quite good contenders. I’m not the biggest fan of the Tatemada. The pico is alright

Otherwise yeah. It’s not highest quality and most food trucks are better but you can get a lot of food for the price and it’s not terrible

Bean and cheese burrito is very good and the enchilada plate is better than most restaurants. I lived in Mexico a year and would choose Taco Palenque over most Mexican restaurants in Austin. The quesadilla reminds me of greasy ones I’d get in Oaxaca. I think it’s true the quality may vary on location and the first one I went to was McCallen. The most recent one was in Houston, and it was only Latinos eating there.

  16. Now we just need an El Pollo Loco and we’ll be set 🙌

Finally. I’m tired of driving all the way to Round Rock.
One of the few exceptional Mexican restaurants in Austin.
I love their Al Pastor pineapple tacos.
