While high five is my absolute go to, I’m willing to travel for something potentially better 🤤
I’ve done the full spice before, and can handle the heat… but I don’t like the flavor of all the chili oil.
Extra points for spicy spicy.

I’m out in the suburbs but I’ve eaten in a bunch of city spots as well. For me #1 is Chicago Ramen in Des Plaines (they’ve opened few other locations). Their red miso broth is the richest I’ve ever had. Nothing hits better on a cold Chicago winter.
A close #2 is Kitakata – I really like them when I’m feeling a lighter broth. Their Green Chili Shio will clean your sinuses but it’s more peppery than hot.
Finally, at #3 is Ramen House Shinchan. They have a curry ramen that just hits different.
Akahoshi
I would be very surprised if the answer is not Akahoshi
Saving this post for my Chicago trip
For good ramen with spice, Strings Ramen. I prefer this over High Five. You can take their Hell Ramen Challenge if you’re up for it. They make their noodles daily on site.
For tonkotsu, consider taking a trek out to Palatine – Ramen House Shinchan.
If you like tan tan ramen, maybe try the original inspiration dish dan dan noodles. MCCB in Chinatown has THE best dandan noodles.
Ramen Misoya in Mt Prospect.
