Looks like they consider a ‘serving size’ one bag or 210cal

But also looks like each bag is more than one cup popped, so if you’re not eating the full bag… each cup popped is 35 cal.

I love these mini bags for calorie counting. Just my $0.02 but when faced with contrasting info like this, I always choose the higher of the two.

going by sodium content, there’s more like 5.7 cups in a bag. so a bag is ~200 cals. i’d just go with the 210 for tracking purposes.

This is a very confusing nutrition label.

    How is this confusing?

    Serving size: one bag

    Calories for one serving: 210.

Then you have 35 calories per cup if you portion it and don’t eat the whole bag.

I don’t understand why people find these confusing. It says “serving size: 1 bag.” And it says “per serving: 210 calories.” So, 1 bag = 1 serving = 210 calories. How do you arrive at “each bag is 175” when it says each bag is 210?

Really what this boils down to is the mismatch between 1 bag UNPOPPED is 210 and POPPED is 175 (35×5). They have to provide the nutritional information for the unpopped bag which is 100% of the kernels and flavoring etc inside, however AS PREPARED (popped) it would be 175 unless you are better at popping microwave popcorn than me haha. You run into similar discrepancies with things like canned fruits and veggies. Depending on whether or not they expect you to consume the liquid contained with it, it can vastly change the nutritional content.

European labels are much better than this most of the time. This kind of label should be against the law and in Europe, it probably wouldn’t be allowed. All foods have calories for 100g/ml of product. The label would say i.e. serving (one bag unpopped) is 42g and it would be easy to compare to calories per 100g to make sure it checks out.

this shit is why I got a microwave safe popcorn bowl and just pop straight up kernels in there. you can weigh the kernels in grams and add butter/oil/seasoning after.

    The key word is “about.”

1 bag has more than 5 cups. 1 bag is 210 Calories. There are close to 5.8 cups in each bag. You can tell by looking at the sodium value which is the least rounded. Everything except 5 cups is rounded correctly.

I don’t know why 5.8 cups got rounded to 5 cups instead of 6 cups.

1 bag (42.5 grams) is 210 cals, which makes around 5 cups. One cup is equal to roughly 8 grams (as there are 5 ‘cups’ per serving or bag). So, if you measure that out, that’s 35 cals per 8 grams of product (cooked or popped), approx, in this case.

**It’s referring to cooked weight, too. Hence, the word ‘popped’.

Not to mention the Carbs are 20g per serving… but if you multiply the 3g for the 1c Popped by 5 cups it’s only 15g of carbs…. even if you do 6cups popped (for example) by the carb amount it still doesn’t add up… And protein is 0g in 1c popped but three in the serving size… Than the fat content is off too… Yes super confusing

Just a heads up, the Walmart brand “light butter flavored microwave popcorn” is 110 calories per bag. I eat 2-3 bags per day with some 0 calorie seasoning.

A serving size is one bag and one bag is 210.

It’s OK to use the one cup measurement if you’re only having a cup or two. But if you’re having mostly the whole bag, use the 210.

Popcorn is harder because every bag pops up differently in how many kernels you have left over.
