Went to a preview party for Tacodeli’s new location on South Lamar. It opens Wednesday where Masa y Mas used to be. Learned a few things about what happened with the old place and what’s to come but let’s not bury the headline: the Salsa Doña Margarita is coming and the Doñarita brings some tasty heat!

I know people love the sauce. It’s always been a little too overpowering for my taste so I use it sparingly. I think they found a good balance to make a spicy margarita that’s tequila and jalapeño forward with a noticeable essence of the Doña sauce. The guy who made the drink said they start with Doña sauce and strain it down to a lighter liquid that goes into the recipe. They’re using Carabuena blanco tequila and Nixta corn liquor as the spirits. I dig it, it’s totally in my preferred drink wheelhouse of tequila, citrus and heat.

There is an another new drink on the menu called a Guavarita, like the Doñarita, that will only be on the South Lamar drink menu. It’s much sweeter, juicer, something for people who enjoy fruity drinks. I prefer the Doñarita, it just tastes stronger.

Heard from one of the Tacodeli owners that they will be bringing back Taco of the Day daily specials that they used to do before the pandemic.

He also said they had a friendly relationship with the owners of Masa y Mas who offered them the space because they wanted to move out and focus on their other restaurants. Looks like they did a pretty good job turning over the space in a short time frame.
