We’ve noticed that recent changes in Reddit’s algorithms have made it harder for original content (OC) communities like ours to get the visibility we used to enjoy. This shift means that posts and comments aren’t getting the attention they deserve.
By voting on and commenting on posts, you’re not only helping others but also boosting the visibility of your own posts. Your engagement is crucial, not just for r/PelletGrills, but for all the wonderful niche communities like food, crafts, art, and culture that thrive on original content. Even a simple comment like “This would fit X sub” can make a big difference.

I’m no expert but it looks like you’ve got too many in that hole to start with. Maybe clean it out and press the auger button just a little to get it going and see what happens.

It looks like too many pellets in the fire cup. This happened to me the other day and the fix was cleaning out the fire cup. Mine had too much ash in it

You have too much in the fire pot! It looks to be over feeding it!

I don’t know about that brand, but it looks like your auger is feeding in waaaaay too many pellets. You might have a bad control board or bad temp sensor. It’s piling them onto unburnt pellets then when the stack gets highs enough the pellets in the auger start to burn, like a smoke tube. Will also happen on a normal working pellet grill if the ash builds up too high.
I would send this video into the manufacturer.

Close the hopper lid. I dunno???

Sometimes the auger gets jammed up. One time I even had to take it apart bc this pit boss pellet grill I was using started over feeding. I ended up emptying out the pellet box and clearing out the whole auger.

You need to vac the grill after each use. It’s a small price for safety. You let ash build up and the pellets ignited the auger, or you aren’t keeping thermostat clean

Not often ya see another Big Horn! I love mine. I have also had this problem, maybe not to this extreme, but have seen smoke coming out of the hopper….sometimes does, sometimes doesn’t. I vacuum the firebox and the inside of the smoker before every use…. Doesn’t seem to be much rhyme or reason to it.

I think it’s the Traeger pellets. I quit using them because this would happen all the time. I found that when they fed down the auger they would leave dust that would always catch on fire and back burn down the hopper. I switched to a different brand and have not had it happen again.

That fan don’t look like it’s fanning

Auger is on fire you need to empty ash pit more often

I have had this happen. Ended up replacing the controller, and it solved the issue.
