They turned a purple color after red. Is that normal? Any suggestions on what to do with them? I have a ton and they are so so hot.

Congrats! I was wondering the same because my cayenne peppers are the same color rn. I just looked it up and apparently they change to this dark color before turning red. They will probably continue to ripen and turn red even after you picked them.

Seems like everyone is getting crazy hot jalapeños this year, including me. I’m loving it.

I thought it was just my jalapenos that were 🔥 this year!

Same here! My jalapeños are legitimately hotter than my cayennes.

What kind are they and where did you get the seeds. My jalapeños sucked this year

Those look amazing, nice job with the impulse control and letting them blush before picking

Those are some beautiful peppers. Id take some of those seeds in a heartbeat

Generally I have found the more “wrinkles” (I forget the term), the hotter they will be

Dry them out and use as seasoning. Make some nice hot sauce, chilli, gumbo.

  13. Mine turned into bell peppers. Going to have to have a word with that damn nursery.

Nice penos, if you can grow em hot you know the way.

Red corked ones are so fruity and aromatic, just about the right level of heat, too.

*hot take*: jalapenos are legit the most rangy spice-wise of all pepper variants. Some are green bell pepper hot. Some are near habanero hot. Yes, obvious signs like corking make it easier to tell, but every once in awhile, you bite into one and get put on your ass.

When you see that color and texture lol be careful!

FWIW op, it’s the other way around. They’ll start to darken as they ripen and then turn red. If you want a spicier green sauce than normal jalapenos give you, pick em a day or two before they get to this point.

Try to water them a little more that you do now too- iirc corking is a sign of water stress which in turn affects capsaicin production.
