I don't think it's blossom end rot and it's looks to me like it's being eaten by something. I've checked the plant for bugs and I can't see anything.
Any thoughts?

I’m having the same problem. My suspicion is birds or squirrels

Looks like a turtle.

Likely bird damage

Could be squirrels and/or rabbits. Tends to happen to tomatoes towards the bottom of the plant. If higher up, maybe deer or even horn worm

It was mice in my garden. Buy a cheap trail/game camera to confirm. I set traps and got 5 mice in two days and the problem resolved. Netting for birds. Find harmony with your backyard ecosystem if possible. Happy growing!
Fucking mockbirds here. They only eat seeds and fruits and vegetables no bugs. They target tomatos as they start to ripen. They would also eat my chile piquins which I didn’t mind in that they broadcast the seeds and you get new volunteers.
I had similar damage and found a tomato pin worm on my plant. Also found it’s droppings and silk web that I had previously assumed was a spider. I removed the entirely leaf it was on and haven’t had an issue since. Hoping it was just one

Sometimes the animals they get peckish – and they don’t wanna eat it all- so they just take a nibble and move on

I actually saw a squirrel doing this. Airsoft I suppose, since my lazy ass cat won’t do his job.

Put a pan of water out in the garden. If it hasn’t rained in awhile it is animals eating the tomatoes looking for water.
Thanks everyone I’ll give your suggestions a try.
Looks a lot like the damage I had, and the culprit for me was chipmunks.
Get a bird bath, it’s critters looking for moisture.
If you are finding these on the ground, others have already addressed possible pests causing it.
If you are finding them on the plant like this, that looks exactly like [Tobacco or Tomato Hornworm](https://thegardeningcook.com/wp-content/uploads/2013/08/tobaccco-vs-tomato-hornworm-735×827.jpg) damage I get almost every year and never stops until I remove the hormworms. [Look for the poop on leaves](https://www.reddit.com/r/tomatoes/comments/1envyl2/what_are_these/) then crouch down and look up from that poop to find the hornworm. They can be hard to see, look under the leaves and look for leaves that are partially eaten from one edge. ALso look for leave stems that are partially eaten.
My guess is grasshoppers.

Look for those droppings to rule out hornworms
