… and the mac and cheese was chewy and sticky.

I feel like that’s incredibly bad for them, you got a slice that was under the lights for like a day.
But I also argue in Austin Terry Blacks is good but idk about top

  2. dodgerblue1212

Seems like a bad piece. What did they say when you asked for a different cut?

  3. johnny_wanderer

I have kinda lost faith in this location, this has been my experience the last few times.. I will say I drive up to the newer location in Lockhart since it’s pretty quick on the toll for me and it is still to the standard I expect! Take a drive out there, Lockharts great as well!

I been saying it all along for a long time now. Terry Black is not that good. They are B-rated barbecue. I have taken several out of town friends there because they were interested to try this place and I told them all that TB is just OK. Then I take them to Franklin‘s and they’re like holy cow. You should’ve took us here first. Well, I told you so. I would of taken that right back and asked for a new piece, they make plenty of money and should not be serving dry ass meat – that’s inexcusable

  5. martinbogo

If they had served me that I would’ve turned around and asked them to take it back. This isn’t anywhere close to their standard

  6. lambopanda

They cut the meat in front of you. If you don’t like the look of the meat. You can tell them.

  7. Like_Ottos_Jacket

Everyone is always saying how great this place is, and like half the time I’ve eaten there, they push out crap like this.

  8. TheChrisLambert

I’ve been a bunch and never saw anything like that

  9. murso74

It’s so weird how dry their lean brisket is. I get that it’s lean but that shit is crazy

  10. Which-Day6532

They are the the most overrated bbq spot I’ve ever been to and I’ve been 10 times

  11. goalie65

Wow, that looks like an old piece of meat.

  12. sewciallyawkward_

original blacks > Terry blacks. gotta go to Lockhart

  13. texaslegrefugee

Given today’s pricing I wouldn’t hesitate to take it BACK.

  14. rinap88

I would have taken that back. You pay a hefty price for food you don’t want to eat. They got to serve that mess to someone and hope they get away with it.

  15. NavidsonBateman

That’s sad. Terry Black’s used to be my go to.

  16. sentientbean-

Did anyone else see a penis in the arrangement of that meat

  17. pastro50

Normally, Terry blacks lean is really moist. Surprising how dry that was. Also, per their pitmaster they use prime brisket which he said only a few places in Austin do.

  18. showtyme86

They have gone severely done hill in the last 16 months. I know for a fact that they get cheaper quality brisket than the prime they used to carry.

The leadership has gone to complete shit and the GM is an egomaniac that’s severely out of touch. The COO came from the Cheesecake Factory and is only concerned with how much money they can churn out with no regard to the guest experience.

    Source? Me

  19. yungsaadi

I’ve been saying this for like a year now but I get pushback from people who had it a long time ago when they were still premiere bbq, the quality is slipping very fast and I promise what OP posted isn’t an isolated incident.

  20. josegjrd

I would say it’s probably in the top 3 worse bbqs in Austin. They’re really just riding the family name at this point.

  21. Jeremy_Gill21

I am shocked to see them mentioned here so often. Would rather go to stiles switch. Terry Blacks isn’t even in the same universe as Leroy and Lewis or interstellar

  22. halstead987

Guest Chef Lincoln Riley insists it’s cooked perfectly.

  23. FalseConsequence4184

Man I hope you took that right back to the register. That is hideous. I’m so sorry

  24. Inner_Emu4716

I was also disappointed by the Terry Black’s brisket/sausage when I went. People regularly call it the best bbq in Austin and they look at me crazy when I say I don’t think it’s all that.

  25. Rockosayz

I’ve thought TBs was over rated, yeah it’s better than some, but there are too many better options in the Austin area

  26. Radical_cook

I’ve been in Austin a little over 2 years and I’ve come to find that terry blacks, despite the raving reviews I hear from just about everyone, is very hit or miss. Mostly miss. I’ve gone to terry blacks somewhere in the ballpark of 6 or 7 times; mostly taking friends or family from outside of Texas to try some bbq. But I can say that at LEAST 4 of those times the food was notably bad. Brisket was dry. Sausage undercooked, ribs stiff as a board. And when it is good it’s pretty run of the mill bbq with nothing special, especially not quality

  27. Own_Abalone_8493

The OG Blacks (not Terry) is the only good Black’s BBQ!!!

  28. Thevault512

Terry Blacks is awful, I’ve had it multiple times and it’s always trash I have to assume the only reason it’s popular is because of it’s location

  29. PlatesNplanes

Terry blacks used to be alright. Wanted barbecue, happened to be downtown, and didn’t want to wait in line. Then Rogan talked about it and it sucks, and there’s always a line.

  30. nancysbluesky

We avoid that place since we can’t stand the owners and what they stand for, but recently went because we had visitors from out of town that wanted to go. Was a nightmare of trying to seat us all at a cramped table that was way too small, but only one available. Got rained on when it suddenly started a downpour and couldn’t go anywhere else as it was impossible to even move around, let alone find a decent table.
Sides were okay, meat, not so much. Worst part was paying $68 for rack of beef ribs that no one could eat as it was just bones and gelatinous fat, less than a tablespoon of meat. We just threw it away rather than fighting through the madness to request another one and vowed never to torture ourselves again. Over hyped, over priced, tourist trap, sub par quality at best. Never again!!

  31. EyeSea7923

Ive been there 7 times now, and I had a dryer piece one time. It’s not very common. That’s pretty rough though.

  32. super-mega-bro-bro

I didn’t think I’d see something that would turn me straight Karen in a single moment but here we are with this dusty dry ass slice

  33. al_gore_rhythem

Try Blacks on Guadalupe for moist brisket!
