I really like this brand of briquettes. Long burn, big briquettes and they are all natural.

B&B Oak lump, Buffalo Oak lump or Maple Leaf Maple lump for me.

I’ve come down to B&B briquettes. After I graduated from Kingsford I picked up Jealous Devil lump, and I still like it for chicken, but I find it too hot in my WSM and kettle for my comfort for most things. B&B briquettes is my happy place.

    Cowboy are the best briquettes

Literally the worst brand of charcoal I have ever used.

    Kingsford Professional Competition Briquettes

They are shaped differently to create more space and air flow between the brics and very densely packed. They burn down completely to nothing. No left over half burned brics like the cheap store brands.

If you can’t find them try out “Red Oak” brand. They have great lump charcoal that burns hot AF as well as some super size briquettes that burn for quite some time.

I don’t know the brand, but it’s a big 50lb bag of mesquite from the local cash & carry.

It’s a bit trite but honestly, it’s Fogo super premium. There’s just no other charcoal that compares to me.

I tried switching to the XL Jealous Devil and it just doesn’t hit the same.

Kingsford is my favorite but I use these because it’s cheap.

I switched to Jealous Devil last year and have not looked back since. Yeah it’s a little pricey, but worth it IMO.

Kingsford. Because it sells at Costco, on sale at the beginning of the summer, and I load up for the year

I prefer Jealous Devil for lump. I’ve had success with the Weber briquettes.

I’m canadian and i buy maple leaf maple lump. Why? Its local lol. I do think that there are too many small flakes/shale in it though. but still less than royal oak lump. Royal oak lump does smell nicer though. i use it when i can’t find the maple stuff

Royal oak lump natural charcoal, I can find it everywhere and I’ve never had an issue using it to smoke or grill. And some bags have huge pieces that you can use as stick fuel if you separate them

Kingsford cause its cheap and reliable.

Picked up a bag of Jealous Devil lump which was good, but a bit too expensive to become my regular fuel.

To each their own I guess but wow that’s bad charcoal.

Royal Oak. Lump oak charcoal, starts hot and stays for a long time. It’s also great if you are adding soaked wood chips.

Honestly been using JD lump and the last two bags I bought had pieces of brick/rock in it. So might go back to b&b

Lump charcoal and nothing else (except wood, of course, that’s no.1)

  19. jecoppol

That’s what I like to use if not burning wood, lump is fine but burns unevenly, hot and fast. You can literally get decent smoke and flavor from cowboy alone. I hope everyone continues to bash it so it doesn’t suffer in quality in over production. Royal oak is a close second, another maligned briquette. Yet people are fine with Kingsford which is made in part with coal.
