Hi everyone! So I’ve been consistently in the gym for over a week now, with a Push-Pull-Legs workout plan from Jeff Nippard and I usually consume around 1600-1800 kcal daily.
For reference, I’m 75.1 kg, 5’6, and 23 years old. So I am 5.1 kg above the standard weight. Overweight.
Today, I officially went to see a nutritionist and paid for a 3 month plan. He put me down to a 1200 kcal plan with only a 45 minute cardio workout on the treadmill for my first week. And said I shouldn’t be lifting right now.
I feel kinda off because I badly wanted to be weightlifting and losing weight at the same time. I will be back with a nutritionist weekly though, do you guys think I’ll be stuck on cardio for a while or should I talk to them about my workout plan when I come in next week?

?? why did he give you only 1200kcal with your height and activity level?
A nutritionist isn’t a protected title. Anyone can call themselves a nutritionist. The real ones are registered dieticians.
Is this really a plate of salad for breakfast and a plate of salad for lunch?
Hun please remember that nutritionists are NOT dieticians. They don’t have degrees, they’ve just done an online course that anyone can do. They don’t have the knowledge and it’s obvious when he’s prescribed you 1200??!!! Absolutely not. I’d get a refund and stay FAR away from
I’ve just don’t some calculations and assuming, you’re a female, your MAINTENANCE for an inactive lifestyle is 1850 (more if you factor in exercise). So for a 200-400 calorie deficit, you should be eating 1450-1650
Oh absolutely not. 1200 is not for you- find a better nutritionist. Better yet, an actual dietician.
Go to a doctor and ask for a referral to see a dietitian. (Assuming you’re in the US.)
Please go to a dietitian
Yeah I mean, even me who is 5″7″ and eats 1200 for slow weight loss only arrived at this low number after a long time of trying higher amounts. I can’t imagine starting there, especially with the lifting. This is pretty sus.
I’m sure you already got a lot of people telling you Nutritionist is not a protected title but that’s actually not true. At least in some parts of Canada, Nutritionist is a protected title as well as Dietician.
Anyways, this is not about Nutritionist vs Dietician debate but about this prescribed meal plan.
First of all, you’re way too tall to be eating this little. Second of all, how did this “Nutritionist” come up with this prescribed meal plan? Was it tailored to fit you and your goal? Or was it some copy-and-paste / one size fit all kind of meal plan? If it is the latter, they literally just scam your money to buy this meal plan where you can easily find thousands of variations online for free.
I would ask a lot more questions before following this “prescribed meal plan”. You’re young, you’re active and sound like in good health, the weight will come off. The last thing you want is screw up your metabolism for a fast result.
Best of luck! You paid for the Nutritionist Consultation and a personalized consult is what you shall get. Not some one size fit all stuff!
Anyone that says to entirely do the treadmill for weightloss should be avoided as much as possible, its a shame that there are “professionals” that will advise in this manner. Please do not refrain from resistance training, ESPECIALLY if you enjoy it
I’m confused why everyone is saying 1200 is not enough, when the sub is called 1200 is plenty? I’m not trying to be snarky, I’m genuinely asking why. Helpful reply appreciated!
Hi! This might help – I am ALSO 5’6 and started at 75kg!
I’ve been eating 1400 a day and have lost 5kg in a month so far. I do 3 x weight sessions a week and 2 x 45 min treadmill sessions – usually walking uphill, at pace, followed by a short run. I also walk my dog twice a day for 15 mins at a leisurely pace.
I would honestly up your intake just a tiny bit – it’ll likely make a big difference, and there’s nothing wrong with weightlifting either. Cardio I think just burns it faster.
Nutritionist is not regulated. I wouldn’t trust a thing a nutritionist says. Go to a dietitian instead, it’s a legitimate medical profession with regulations
Yea u should be lifting instead of cardio if anything eating that little
Refund asap
This meal plan is just sad too. You can eat low cal and still have tasty, filling food!
Yea they don’t give a fuck about you just the scale to get more money get a refund ASAP. Way too low calories too
That doesn’t even look like it amounts to 1200! The meal plan is incredibly sad. I’m on 1000-1200 cals atm and my meals are nutritious and tasty, if not repetitive, this absolutely sucks
1200cal and no meat lule
>He put me down to a 1200 kcal plan
Did he let you track your current intake or anything like that? Measure your progress with the current intake? Do you already lose weight with the 1600-1800kcal? If you already lose weight, I’d never suggest going further down by 400-600kcal, making things way harder and unsustainable. Your nutritionist should focus on building habits first of all, in my opinion, though that also depends on what you currently already do and how disciplined you are and how fast you want it to happen. Also, that plan could really use some improvements, but I guess that’s not everything you eat right? Who made that plan? Otherwise it’d be low fiber, low protein, white rice (not very satiating).
>I feel kinda off because I badly wanted to be weightlifting
That’s weird. If you really want to weightlift so badly, why in the world would he not let you do that? There’s only benefits, except for maybe not changing too much at once. I mean in terms of weight loss, the weight lifting won’t do that much, but it certainly provides health benefits and apparently motivation for you.
Where’s the protein 😂😂
Everyone else already touched on how absurd the meal plan is, so I’ll just say that unless you have an injury or are ego lifting it’s perfectly fine to weightlift. I think he’s scared that you’ll gain muscle mass and so the weight number on the scale wont change as drastically. Weightlifting is extremely beneficial for you and also I can tell that you like it. Please don’t stop it just because he said so.
