Bill Miller’s.
I’ll go with Pok-E-Jo’s as a close second, but I hear their mexican food is actually pretty good.

I think Dickey’s BBQ. SO lame
edrivah
iron works. if not them then salt lick. iron works is plain bad but salt lick is just over hyped . Rudy’s is better than salt lick IMO. shit i’ve had better bbq at Pok-e-jo’s or even smokey joes. oh and another over hyped place is Coopers down town. wasn’t that great. but for overall flavor and quality Iron works is absolute shit.

Stubbs bbq is pretty bad, especially given its long standing. The sauce is decent but the meats …. 🤔

Stubb’s. Nothing else is even close to their level of terribleness.

Green Mesquite is pretty terrible. Microwaved rubber.

There are a lot of good (and by that I mean, excellent candidates for worst) options here, but my vote is Iron Works.
Mostly because it’s across the street from the convention center – so for many visitors, it’s the only taste of Texas BBQ they get. And it’s a piss poor representation as such.
PuzzleheadedHorse437
But Pokey Jo’s, Smokey Mos and Bill Miller barbecue is accessible and good because the cost is not astronomically high so you’re not in a position where you can only eat barbecue on special occasions. Do away with them if you will at your own peril.
And I for one want barbecue on a more regular basis than special occasions.

Stubbs (restaurant) has never been good. Same with Bill Miller, but that is a givin’.
Spiritual_Ad_1358
Bill Miller – just not good, even for fast food bbq standards. Green Mesquite – Hasn’t been good in forever, super dry, been coasting of a DD&D appearance. County Line – Any BBQ place that doesn’t have a line and cut in front of you is not good.

Put me on the Bill Miller train, I’ve only been twice but it was consistently nasty.

Schmidt Family BBQ in the hill country galleria, after a few bites I literally thew it in the trash and walked out.

Green Mesquite. Their brisket is like chunks of grey brick.
Presto678
Green Mesquite for sure. Never had such dry, tasteless brisket in my life. The sides were equally awful. The only reason they stay open on Barton Springs is because of tourists.

Bee cave bbq. Inedible.
Donn’s is a close second

Totally on board with everyone saying Bill Miller. This isn’t relevant to this discussion, but there’s a chain I tried in Dallas called spring creek that might be worse than Bill Miller, believe it or not. I’ve taken food recommendations from Dallas natives with a grain of salt ever since…

Ironworks is worst. Bill Miller if we’re counting chains.

Smokey Mo’s is pretty terrible. Their greatest sin is the fact that I’ve had a few times where I met about of town person and asked “have you had any BBQ yet?” and find out that they’d only visited there. Unsurprisingly, the answer is universally “we did, and I don’t get the hype.”
It’s always a pain to have to explain that where they went is the equivalent of a mall food court.

I’ve never had iron works but based on this post I don’t plan on ever having it.
Green mesquite gets my vote as worst if we’re excluding chains.
Including chains it’s easily, easily Bill Millers
ATX_NOT_FOR_US
I don’t think that Bucee’s brisket would be edible without the sauce and the sandwich or taco it comes in. I’m not sure why they announce it since you won’t be getting what they are slicing right now; your sandwich is on the warmer.

Donn’s is super terrible. Bill Miller close second, but they have good sides and chicken.
