I picked some tomatoes with holes in my garden today and saw an insect coming out the hole. There are a lot of small flying insects as well. What kind of pest is it? Is there a way to manage it?

The bug looks to be an earwig.

I’ve used little mesh bags around my tomatoes in the past when the bugs would get to be too much…

The holes are likely made by birds and then the bugs got in afterwards. I find when animals are poking holes in the fruit but not really eating it, they are looking for water. I leave a small dish of clean water out near the garden and I have not had holes in tomatoes for a year
