Hello! I'm American and I posted here asking for help with Yorkshire puddings a while back, they are going to have to wait for one of the times when I come home but I really appreciated all of your help. Anyway, when me and my family were on vacation a few days ago, we drove by this English restaurant of sorts. We weren't able to go but my dad said that there was an English pub near us and he will take me there. I was a little bit shocked as we live in the middle of nowhere and I'd kind of expect something like this to be at least 30 minutes- 1 hour away. Thank God it wasn't, anyway it was really really cool! I wasn't allowed to sit at the bar as im not 21 but that doesn't matter. I had a Scotch egg, fish and chips, and mushy peas for the first time! I know it probably doesn't seem revolutionary to yall and I think it's just drunk people food but I was really excited. It was all really good and I don't understand why people shit on British food without trying it, a lot of it is really good! Can't wait to come back again when I'm on break from college

  1. That’s a massive bowl of mushy peas, I don’t think I’ve ever seen so many at once! Enjoy your wind for the rest of the day.

Had exactly the same thing yesterday! Superb!

    Presentation is excellent!
Good looking food, that I have food envy of. 🙂

What do you mean you weren’t allowed to sit at the bar as you’re not 21?

You can have a beer or cider if with a meal at 16, the rest is 18 when you’re an adult and can do whatever you want without others telling you what to do.

Food looks good and a really nice scotch egg is worth its weight in gold.

  7. Just so you know fish and chips isn’t drunk food, whilst now it’s pretty much too pricey to do it, it used to be a big part of most families meals like once a week or two weeks you’d get a fish supper (fish and chips) from the local chippy.

It isn’t considered a drunk food that would be more donor kebab or Indian food

Chips look overcooked and that is way too much mushy peas.

That is the correct portion size for your mushies 👍

Congratulations! Hope it was good. The scotch egg looks quite a bit overcooked and you definitely need something with it – probably some picallili. But still, food of kings!

Fish looks good, but I’d expect a decent pub to serve a Scotch egg with the yolk still runny.

You could jet propel yourself to college.

Batter looks far too greasy. Pea and sauce ratios are way off. And if the scotch egg doesn’t have a vibrant orange soft-but-not-runny yolk they’ve failed, miserably. Chips look a little overcooked for my liking but loads of people will think they are just right. 4/10

All that matters though is that you enjoyed it!

Looks solid but the scotch egg needs to be a bit runny still!

  15. Littlened

They did you dirty with that scotch egg, a good one should be soft still

Next time you come to UK go to a proper fish & chip shop. Much nicer than restaurants

Mushy peas on steroids 😳 looks amazing

Lettuce all appreciate the smiley service you got with your scotch eggs too…

More mushy peas than fish. Pale yellow hard boiled yolks and some dry salad leaves. We have terrible standards in this country.

This ain’t drunk people food. This is the kind of meal your mum would have at a family dinner and say it was the best meal she’d had in years!

Looks like it was a lovely pub 😊

So was this in the US? Either way that’s beautiful looking food, especially the fish and the scotch eggs

  22. WinkyNurdo

Holy shit that’s a LOT of mushy peas.

Goes well with mushies — Worcestershire sauce … or chilli vinegar. Drown them in it!
