Any spots to get manakish/man’ousheh in or near Downtown? Just had an incredible one at the Cabbagetown St Fest but they’re from Hamilton.

That looks delicious. How’s the festival? Any other great bites there?

**Correction:** Flour Power is not Hamilton based, they’re Toronto and do farmers markets / pop-ups. The pierogis I had were Hamilton.

  3. East-Tea-Can down at The Well does a Manakeesh. But I’ll be honest, it’s hit or miss. All depends on who’s working in the kitchen. Had it one time, and it was one of the best I’ve had. Had it another time, and it was quite bad. The issue is it’s $11 or $12. Which is insane to me. It’s bread and za’atar. This shit should cost like $5 or $6 at the very most. You don’t even get veggies from East-Tea-Can like you do with Flour Power (which by the way, they do an excellent manakeesh).

This is coming from someone who detests cooking at home, but Manakeesh is one of those things that’s pretty easy to make at home. You can buy the spice from pretty much any grocery store, pick your favourite style bread, get some olive oil, whatever veggies you like, and bon appetite. It works extremely well on a croissant too.

If you’re asking whether there are any places that have them, then Paramount is an obvious choice. I know everyone shits on it but they do their manaeesh well, especially the cheese and zaatar if you like zaatar. Another spot is The Saj Wraps, and they make chicken wraps with the manaeesh too that are pretty good. Nothing like back home but still very good.

There used to be a spot called Ooshi near Bloor and Yonge, saddly it closed in the pandemic 🙁

Paramount on Yonge has a good Lahm b Ajeen (Lahmajun) which is basically a Manooshe but with minced beef instead of Cheese/Zaatar. They also have the classic Manooshe but I didn’t have a good experience with those.
