My grandma used to tell me how they had almost no food after WW2 in post war Germany. Her and her mom used to eat onions like apples.
Once I watched her take an onion, slice it in half, lightly salt it and take an enormous bite. Tears were streaming down her face as she smiled and took another bite.
She let me try after. Hooked ever since
