Usually don’t have a problem and I smoke once a week maybe every other. Went on a cruise came home and everything was fucked. First time having to take out the augur and hope I don’t have to do it again.
I have a Pit Boss vertical copperhead and meh, laying on my stomach on the cement trying to figure out which screws had to come out and which I had to remove to just get to the screws to make the augur come out was annoying.

That is what led to a total overhaul of my Zgrills 700. It rocks now. Keep those grills clean and covered.

I was actually gonna post today about cleaning pellet grills. Does anyone clean out the smoke chute?
CrimsonConnoisseur04
That indicates moisture in your pellets. Im cleaned mine out lol. I smoke daily on my Austin XL and I clean every 3 days

I have not cleaned mine (RT-700)out in the 7 or so years i have had it. No issues at all.
It stays covered but is in the rain, sun and snow with no other protection.

How would you even clean that out ? Are you talking about empty the pellet box and letting the auger empty out into the fire box??
I’ve never cleaned it out over the last 7 years and have yet to run into that issues. I just let the smoker run its shutdown course and cover it once it cools down.

Hmmmm. I have not done that ever. I just add new pellets when it gets low and have not had any issues. I also never cover my grill.

I hope this never happens again to me. My auger screws stripped out when I reinstalled the galled up stainless screws when I had to clean mine out. It will be grinder and drill time if I do.
I won’t buy another pellet without a hopper dump device again. I thought of a dedicated shop vac just for pellets to such them all out, but i don’t have the storage space for more junk.

Just went through this. I definitely learned a lot about my grill I’m a pro at it now haha

Or keep it dry and covered up 🫠

One benefit of living in a dry AF climate. I could probably pour water directly in the auger, let it soak, and dry, and it would easily break into dust.
That might be slightly hyperbole.

Shits like concrete too when set. Had to do the same for mine except the seal that seats between hopper and the auger drop was comprised and that’s how water got in mine. Let’s just say I learned a lot more about the mechanics on my grill last weekend

The covers for the grills are not always water tight. I got a good plastic tarp and cut it to fit and keep it on under the grill cover.

I’ve been running my Traeger Pro780 for four straight years. I don’t cover it, but I live in California. My climate is desert-like so I’ve never had pellets go bad in the hopper, and I cook on it in all four seasons. Usually more than once a week, so I also don’t foresee my pellets in the auger to expand and fall apart either.
