My strawberry garden wasn’t always abundant. In fact, I made a lot of mistakes. In my first strawberry patch, I made so many that I decided to do a whole video outlining all the mistakes I made.

  1. my issue is rodents- probably field mice. I have to protect our new orchard trees from their eating the bark off at the base and girdling them and now the strawberries as well. Last year I had a flat of new plants on the car hood overnight and they were gone the next morning (deer) and this year they were planted and the next day nibbled down behind electric fencing (Mice)

So any suggestions for mice? Since Im not eating them this first year I am spraying them with deer deterrent that works, but will not use it next year as the flavors would go into the fruits- most likely. This one has a combo of mint and garlic and Sulphur smell that even our deer will avoid.

But again, next year I want to be prepared to have them grow AND get to eat them finally

  2. Thank you so much, all this information was so helpful. I have made so many of these mistakes, but now I know I will have a better year with my berry patch

  3. Thank you for the explanation about what happens to strawberries that are sitting in the soil. I will be mulching tomorrow!

  4. I love your friendly squirrel at frame 6:15– my friendly backyard squirrel LOVES my strawberry patch,,,any techniques on stopping them? Thanks, dee

  5. Thank You for sharing… I just planted my first strawberry plant. I am growing Ever Bearing strawberries. The tips you shared are great. I can never get bored with gardening either 😂👍🏾🙏🏽

  6. I am a new gardener, just in my 2nd year. I have made tons of mistakes with strawberries. This year I am cutting them back (they're ever barring) for a few more weeks. I had no idea about planting in succession. I am growing them in containers and only have 6 plants right now. Should I plant a few more containers?

  7. Luke I gotta say, I bought all my seeds from you this year, and it's going very well! This is my first time ever gardening, and it's been awesome. Thanks for all that you do and for educating us on how to grow a successful garden. Cheers!

  8. What strawberry type and name and also what beans and peas can/ should i grow with strawberries and what would be good companion plants that can help keep pests away from all those plants/fruits? Lso what can o do to keep rabbits, raccoons, opossums, foxes, pesky squirrels, birds and pests aqay from the actual garden beds and protect my crops? Any advice i would greatly appreciate thank you!

  9. why not plant a new bed with runners from the mother plant after 2 years? Renovating a strawberry bed dies not require totally ripping it out.

  10. Then there’s me with a single strawberry plant in my room, no clue what variety and it gotta be at least a decade old

  11. Ghophers would target our strawberries every yeah and eat everything, put chicken wire underneath the bed

  12. Just started strawberries, thanks for your video, mistakes are costly and frustrating. 😊

  13. now i know why i have tiny strawberries now lol, i overfertilized my other herbs before so i'm not very generous on fertilizing

  14. I learned from some of those mistakes last year… ome thing I need to learn is how to over winter them. Two years I tried stor bought ones, they grew good, but didn't produce any. I bought from a local person thus year, put in containers, and are doing well and producing nice sized strawberries. I plan on putting then in the ground next near, and I have learned a lot from this video.

  15. Instead of ripping out the strawberry plants, getting rid of them and replanting with new plants, is it possible to just dig up the plants and separate the clump into individual plants, then replant them? Thanks for a great video!

  16. Think the slugs got to mine this year,I got nothing left in my patch. They def ate all my mushrooms. I bought sluggo plus to put around the gardens but too late now for this year. Gunna put down early next year. I've never had a slug infestation before, took me a while to find what was eating all my young seedlings

  17. Can ypu plant it in shady place? (Almost no sunlight even though the temperature is tropical one)

  18. I have a hard time growing anything I have a rope type vine that kills everything Don t no how to get rid of it

  19. So I have strawberries growing, and a patch that my grandparents planted 60 plus years ago. No plans are ever dug up and trash. They get natural healthy fertilizers. They grow like crazy and spread without any messing around.
