Every Wednesday night Murray’s Tavern does a $35 Steak Frites & Martini special… me and my gf went for the first time last night and it was excellent.

Really good crispy fries, excellent steak, and the chimichurri was perfection.

The place was packed and the vibes were awesome. Highly highly recommend!!

I’ve had their steak frites a few times, excellent every time. The goop burger is my go-to.

Is that where Gourmands used to be?

  3. Honkey_Fellatio

Nice, but I’m gonna need some homemade Andalouse for those beautiful fries. The Belgian way.

$35 for one plate of steak, fries, and a drink has been a deal since when?? That’s a rip off lol

  5. Federal_Pickles

$35 for an overcooked steak that also has a bad sear??

    No thanks.

Nickel City Bar is $19.99 for a steak, fries, and a boilermaker or old fashioned.

You can’t beat that in Austin.

Not to be a Debbie downer but if the martini was $10-15 like most martinis cost, $20+ for a slab of steak and basic fries isn’t a “special.”

  8. They also serve a really good Chicken Pot Pie!!

Those are fries out of a bag from Sysco.

The whole place is really expensive and the food is just okay, making most normal people feel ripped off. It does not fit in in that neighborhood, either. I cannot recommend this place to anyone, really.

$25 for either a ribeye or New York strip, loaded baked potato and a pint at Infamous Brewing. Wednesdays at 6pm. The owner Josh is usually working the grill.

I like their Croft cocktail so much more than their food. Vibes are always excellent there

This place feels like a wealthy young conservative enclave on the east side. They have a bunch of cop shit and picture of the world trade center behind the bar?

On my first and last visit there, my friend’s and my mouth went numb and tingly after drinking water from their table carafe. I let the table staff know, and they promptly brought us a replacement. But it was very disconcerting. The fish and chips were great, but I’ll never go back.

And I’m still very depressed that Gourmands is no longer there. There’s no other place like it in Austin.

  14. I keep getting ads on Instagram for this and now ads on Reddit? Cmon

Exactly the same thing from aldi
    For 5x the v price

    I should know
This Is what I literally make

All the food at Murray’s is somehow worse than Applebee’s and still more expensive. I didn’t realize I could be so disappointed by a salad.

If you’re on Webberville hit up Cavalier instead. It’s not fancy, but the chefs seem to be fans of food.

  17. I could make this in my kitchen in 10 min for $11.

  18. Oof, you can tell it’s a nice place because there’s no table cloth. /s

To Hell With Murray’s. Ruined the damn neighborhood. RIP Lost Well

That’s as much as the steak frites at the Culinary Dropout in the Domain and the Culinary Dropout is somehow better.

(and CD is a chain so congrats on being worse than a chain that tries to pass itself off as a unique local experience)

For that same price in Paris you would get two serving of steak and two of frites. Also, those frites don’t look right at all. Way too thick.

I like Murray’s tavern because I like the interior and they have some beers it can be difficult to get elsewhere, but really the only thing worth eating there is the fish and chips

  23. Atxxxguy_12345

Have they fixed the table situation? Never going back there again until you can either make a reservation or get seated in order of arrival with name on a waitlist.

    Terrible experience last time

  24. PyongyangJim

I want a chicken salad sando from Gourmands instead.

  25. Vince young got 10 steak frites for happy hour

  26. gotdis55

Last time I tried to make it over for that early in the evening they were “sold out” but offered their more expensive steak meal

  27. FakeEmpire20

This place is in my neighborhood and I can second this post. The staff is awesome. This place rules.

Honestly I think steak frites is overrated and miscategorized as a “fancy dish”. That much money for a small steak and French fries is stupid, just get a burger at that point and save some money. Also, what’s with the chimichurri sauce? If you’re gonna do French do French, an au Poivre sauce would’ve been a sexier choice.
