I ordered a batch of Carolina Reaper seeds from PuckerButt. They produced a good yield of Carolina Reaper plants except one plant I believed was diseased because of the color green the fruits were developing but they do resemble the fruit of Pepper X. I haven’t tried it. Just curious on if this is a coincidence or do I have a gem?

  1. That does look like it. Wanna share some seeds with your fellow redditors?

Damn, if true will you be selling any seeds?
Would be amazing for the public to once again have access to the worlds hottest pepper.

Kind of looks like it! I’m guessing you’ll be hearing from Mr. Currie’s attorneys shortly. Lawyer up and hopefully there’s a way you can get that bag!

You’ll have to do a side by side comparison with a Carolina Reaper. If it’s significantly hotter than the Reaper, it is probably an X. I recommend live-streaming your experiment. 🤭

I’m just jealous because I had about a 4% germination rate from all the PB seeds I planted this year and that 4%, zero were the correct peppers

You could email PuckerButt and ask. Show them your pictures.

If they sent them by accident it’s their mistake and they can’t punish you for growing it.

DO NOT sell or redistribute them. I’m not sure the legal implications, but you could be in trouble if they have patents.

Im sorry, im all new to pepper news. Some peppers belong to specific people? I’m going through the comments and i dont understand what people are saying.

It’s possible that the seeds came off a reaper that was cross pollinated with pepper x. As such, the seeds from this one are likely unstable and could go any direction reaper or pepper x. Although, I’m curious if this might continue to ripen red? Looks orangish

I can tell you what I think if you send me a bunch of seeds for it. You know, just to be on the safe side.

You gotta report back once you’ve tasted it to tell us all how hot it is. And you gotta save the seeds. It could be something like a big mustard mama, not sure if puckerbutt sells that particular variety, but this is really interesting to see what happens

Probably big mustard mama… mine look the same. They are definitely hot though

Just be extremely careful if it turns out to be Pepper X. You don’t want to get sued trying to sell it.

My guess is this is an accidental cross with sth else. Don’t think they would keep their patented Pepper X plants close enough to any other pepper to cross pollinate. However, you can try and grow its seeds next season and see what comes out. If it is the X it should be stable, if not F2 is most likely gonna look completely different.

  14. Huh, my I’m on the 2nd fruiting of my carolina reaper plant, and all of them look like this…

Even if they aren’t, they have a really sick color scheme. You should do a giveaway!

…or just give some to me…
