I inquired into compensation and production and this was the non-answer got. I don't think their total hours works out at all

Ask for “fuck you” money. This sounds like a nightmare waiting to happen.

  2. Santer-Klantz

You cannot get all this done in 4-5 hours per week. These people are either delusional, low-balling you, or both. I cannot see this working out long term if these rich people don’t even seem to know what they’re looking for.

  3. MilesAugust74

Lol 4-5hrs/week for shopping, prepping, ***AND*** cooking?! GTFOH!

  4. Conchobair

If you have to ask, you can’t afford it

  5. Lanky_Estimate926

If you want menu prepping, grocery shopping, samples, prep and cook time for 4-5 hours a week, then congratulations, I can do lunch on Mondays.

  6. rougekhmero

4-5 hours a day MAYBE for five days a week for shopping planning prep. Providing her daughter with hella homemade snacks. Etc etc.

  7. Annsopel

Charge them 350$ per hour. It should cover your full week of prep while respecting their crazy optimistic hours.

  8. hexxcellent

Did this for a bit. Went from, like, a freelance assistant kinda thing who’d pick up laundry to an informal home chef. It was 4-5 hours PER DAY, just for the cooking, rich people are just fucking delusional. They have absolutely no concept of how long things take because they never see the process, everything just magically appears for them.

  9. mzskunk

Don’t forget ‘clean-up’. Like dude, l’m not even in the industry and I know those hours aren’t right.

  10. crunchytacoboy

These are not serious people. They are hoping to get someone who doesn’t know better to agree to a terrible deal.

  11. I love when people have no clue the amount of time, effort and money goes into preparing a meal.

  12. sasha-laroux

Sounds like a cheap and delusional Dance Mom

I think you need to have a conversation with them about your day rate.

It may only be 4-5 hours at their house, but that also includes, driving, shopping, menu planning, etc.

So either charge for everything by the hour, or a set day rate, plus groceries, your expenses (gas, etc) and don’t forget about profit. You’re running a business, 15-20% on top of the food cost.

  14. Cormegalodon

If shopping consisted of you making a shipt order that arrived when you did, you might have time to some days done.

  15. BrewtusMaximus1

A friend of mine does this in the Midwest (not in Chicago). They do entrees and tapas with 4 portions per entree/tapas.

Not including groceries, their prices are:

    3 entrees + sides = $200.
    4 entrees + sides = $225.
    5 entrees + sides = $250.

    6 tapas items = $225.
    8 tapas items = $250.
    10 tapas items = $275.

They cook in their clients homes, package and refrigerate the meals, and leave hand written instructions.

Scale as needed based on regional cost of living.

Grilled cheese and a can campbell’s it is!

  17. mynameisnotsparta

What was the actual ad request posted? How many meals??

In your opinion if someone needed 2 meals a day (brunch & dinner) plus 2 snacks for 3 people x 4 days a week what would the total hours / cost be?

  18. Queasy-Passenger7783

This is so out of touch it reads like hyperbolic fanfic

  19. i_use_this_for_work

By comparison, “Friend That Cooks”, a personal chef service that I do not recommend anymore, charges ~$65/hr, to count grocery shopping and travel from client to grocery store.

For a family of 4, with 4-5 entrees and 4 servings of 2 different lunches, was always 7-10 hours each week.

600-1k is what that person should be expecting to pay.

My grandfather had a personal chef for years (he passed about three years ago). He was also stacked. When we would visit him, the meals were fantastic and the chef was kind of a part of the family. He got paid very well.

Between shopping, ingredients, cooking, and drop off, I charge about 250-350 ($75-100/hr) for my meal prep clients. However, I’m in New York

Edit: forgot to clarify, that’s my rate BEFORE the cost of ingredients

  22. No-Explanation-220

    5 hours per week:
    1 hr grocer
    1 hr driving per day
2 hr prep (for 1 week)
2 hr cooking (1week worth batch cook)
Estimates: 6 hrs / 150 CaD is minimum wage

  23. Interesting-Goose82

Hello chef’s!!! I am not rich, im not looking to hire anyone, i dont want to argue about a fair wage. But i have a question for you pros.

What would this cost? Like what is a fair wage. If the poster wanted steak on friday, casserole/”normal” dinners week nights. Let’s suppose they go out on sat/sun. Also i assume they want you to do dishes? Maybe not? How does this normally work? They cook, then leave while you eat, you do the dishes?

What would be a fair weekly cost for the serivce this post is asking for. And also how many hours/week would it actually take to do this job?

This is just all so foreign to me and im curious. I dont need extensive break downs, just $×/week. And also what area are you in, as $1,000/wk is maybe fair in city A, but in city B it would have to be $3,000/wk….

  24. distantreplay

My sister-in-law does this for two busy families of four to five each. Planning, procurement, fresh prep, of family evening meals five days per week, plus lunches and snacks for children, plus one extra meal each weekend prep-ahead. It’s pretty much full time.

  25. Miguelpaco

I feel like the ad is copypasta or I’m having major Deja vu

  26. Kaneshadow

This person has a lot of very specific requirements, but they’re literally asking for how much you want to charge and asking for your input. So really you can’t expect much better than that in a personal chef ad.

  27. iwasinthepool

Tell them you’ll do it for $2000/wk. People who post ads like this need a reality check. And if it’s what they’re expecting to pay then you just got yourself a pretty cake part time job.

  28. Open-Illustra88er

4-6 hours a week? Seriously? If that’s all
    Why aren’t they doing it?
