this could work well for me with thick, fluffy slices of bread like Texas toast, kings Hawaiian, challah, martin’s potato bread or milk bread types of sandwiches. That said, smooshing down the bread to fit more soup seems like overcompensating because if you the increase surface area and increase soup coverage, that’d warrant for at least the normal amount of bread thickness/soup absorbing potential, not less (which is what you get when you smoosh it in a waffle maker) But also, panini presses are a thing, and this is where that grill grate surface would really improve ya whole life (with the preferred bread types being the same as the waffle iron method)
