We have no idea what's going on with these. But no one is catching halibut in a pond in Southern Ontario.

Did your AM use chatgpt or did they get hit on the head real hard

  2. RiverJai

Comic Sans really sells the dream.

Next week, might I suggest Papyrus?

  3. Odd_Detective_7772

Why would you just not just say fish and chips

  4. BirdBurnett

She’s putting her English degree to use.

  5. neuroid99

Just add “…or the Sysco truck, depending on availability.”

  6. Penginsaurus

Honestly if I read that in a window or something I’d walk away. Feels like its overcompensating and gives off real sus vibes lol

  7. anthemofadam

Triggered by “use to” rather than “used to”. Weird grammar on stuff like this is always a red flag for me

  8. Iamthewalrusforreal

I, too, used to catch halibut from a pond.

  9. britishparl

Ah yes, catching halibut from a back yard pond

  10. Adventurous-Start874

Interesting. I keep stocking my pond with halibut and they keep dying.

  11. MotorEnthusiasm

Who is using Halibut to make fish & chips? Just from a COG standpoint….why would you even say that?

  12. dasfonzie

Everything about this is cheap. Are you operating out of someone’s home kitchen?

  13. Sanquinity

We just have an old-fashioned whiteboard outside where we write our specials on. And just the facts. Like “Mussels with mustard cream sauce, salad, and french fries.” (Was our last special.)

Halibut from a pond? Do I not know where halibut come from?

  15. Buckaroo_Man

This is one of those surreal memes right? It needs an extremely fried jpeg of a fish somewhere. Clipart of a salsa dancer.

  16. Sairen-Mane

Can they add just a stretched jpeg of the food behind the price. Then have the price be in a flame font I think it would work

  17. cynical-rationale

I haven’t seen anything under 10$ in years where I live 🙁 I’d eat there everyday lol

Edit: shit, you are canadian too! With those prices I figured you were American. I’m out in the prairies.

My manager was making these same signs with the same color scheme and same fonts 20 years ago.

    The Cuervo Gold

    The fine Colombian

    Make tonight a wonderful thing

  20. peacefinder

Maybe they’re pulling wrapped halibut fillets that fell off a truck out of the pond!

  21. miseryenplace

This is fucking hilarious. In both a good and bad ways tbh 😂.

Aside from everything else, tell’em not to use red for the font colour when trying to push a special. Red is danger, red is avoid.

  22. autotelizer

Generally puffery is not considered false advertising, was there actually some kind of enforcement action?

  23. joostadood526

This too will make you dance has me shouting.

  24. bigladoffcampus

how much halibut would a customer get for 9.99 CAD?

  25. DingusMacLeod

I’d have pulled it for blatant ignorance. Nobody ever caught a Halibut in a pond.

  26. TightDescription2648

How is the halibut only .50¢ more thank chicken pasta

  27. IllustriousSpirit790

At this point, idc how much you lie to me. If you can sell me an adult sized dinner plate for under 10 dollars, IM IN!!!!!

  28. OrneryPathos

I mean in addition to being an ocean fish; halibut is the size of a person!!!

That being said I’m in Ontario and those prices are super exciting.

  29. DataDaddy79

Why would it be false advertising?  If the fish is halibut and the price is $9.99, the rest is just silly.

The “make you dance” part because of the lawsuits against Red bull for “gives you wings”?  A key part of that way the idea that allowed you to do extraordinary feats of athleticism, while being a sponsor of extreme sports.

I’m not sure any court in Ontario is going to take up a “false advertising” claim that’s clearly a gratuitous promise.

That said, I can see how it probably wasn’t in line with the restaurants branding and would be pulled on account of that.  But no one’s suing over this.

I think this is hilarious. Why does that seem like an unpopular opinion here??

  31. TrickleUp_

Ah the world famous freshwater Halibut

  32. ranting_chef

I hate to see descriptive terms like “incredible.” But when I do, chances are good that it won’t be.
