Multiple of my habaneros have this, but not all.

I believe it’s an inconsistent watering schedule. That’s how I’ve understood it.

  2. My guess is they grew quick and the skin sorta cracked/corked. Maybe someone actually smart will correct me though 🤷‍♂️

  3. Mine all did this after all the rain from the hurricane here in NC. I just harvested them all and started a fermentation.

I’ve seen this sort of blemish appear on fruits that had started developing just before a hot/dry spell that slowed down their growth a bit just before a big rain storm and feeding and they took off again.

I think it’s the back-and-forth from rapid to slow growth and then back, and the skin just kinda ‘splits’ when the fruit starts to blow up again. Like “pepper stretch marks,” in a sense.

Maybe cut out those bits before using it if it bothers you enough, but otherwise, I wouldn’t worry about it.

Quite possibly anyone who lives on the eastern seaboard may be experiencing these lines. I’m seeing them on tomatoes too.

That’s not corking, it’s a growth crack due to a quick growth period from overwatering

It’s been a wet season right at the end for us.
