This is a habanero that I sowed in June. It’s never produced a flower; just these odd, large, firm clusters. All my other habanero plants have almost ripe pods. I kept this one in the hydroponic starter just to see what these clusters would turn into. So… what is it?

I’ve only ever seen this with some tomatoes i grew from a supermarket variety, and it typically happens when the unstabilised seeds of a hybrid variety are planted, which can grow very funky and alien-like fruits. The plant did produce flowers, however.

My hunch is that the seeds you grew are from an accidental cross.

Its probably never going to give you any peppers with seeds inside. I would start trying to root some cuttings and make as many clones as possible.

Maybe graft some cuttings onto another normal habanero plant too. Aberrations like that are cool.

Where did you get the habanero seeds from?

Try and get seeds. If you can get some nice F2s it might be a cool plant.

I’ve been growing peppers for many years and I’ve never seen a mutation like this. I’d love to know what caused it.

  6. Strange looking chillies. I hope you can get some good pods from the plants and re grow its seed again

You know how plants are supposed to grow better when you talk to them? Well this is what happens when that talking is in the form of dissonant whispers from the Great Old One haunting the plant’s dreams.

This reminds me of when a weed plant starts to flower too early and flips back into veg state

And I thought the peppers from my Mutant x Mattapeno were funky looking.

Trying to regrow GMO will give either very weird plants or plants that never fruit. I had a corn stalk grow and where the corn should have budded it sprouted more stalk not corn.
