I worked at Donatos in Ohio, making pizza, back in 1995. The Hawaiian pizza was on the menu and existed prior to me working there, making it at least 30 years old. Nobody ever had a strong opinion about it or considered pineapple on pizza to be as decisive as all the BS currently spouted online.

When done right it is delicious. I have some crappy pizza places around where I live and they seem to think dumping in the pineapple with half the liquid doesn’t make the pizza soggy. But a good cheese and pineapple is pretty good.

Fruits on pizza is fine. Even pineapple is fine if you want. You just need to harmonize properly. Pineapple on pizza with tomato sauce? Disgusting, on a nice white pizza with some crunchy salty pork? Probably very good.
Pizza is bread, sauce, cheese, extra topping originally, however nowadays is just really good bread and that’s a beautiful canvas. So just be creative with decent reasonings and it will work well. Sticking to tradition stagnates food and consequently make food limited, that’s why Italy has been losing points in the food department the last few decades even though they have the best canvas (pizza, pasta, bread) out there most probably.
