I hope this becomes a series! I love vintage recipes
My mom used 1 green n 1 red pepper no pimentos! Probably because we had a big garden! I was born in 53 and we raised our chickens! Mom boiled a hen n I'm sure because of broth! We had for Sunday dinner!
Macaroni cheese for Christmas? Thats the most unChristmasy food imo. But then again, I come from a southern hemisphere country where its summertime but a lot of families still have the traditional christmas dinner. Ham, chicken, trifle, pavlova.
I AM WATCHING FOR THE FIRST TIME…………. YOU AND HUSBAND ARE ….. JUST DARLING !!
My mom used to make it like that too and it always came out perfect it looks just like that and it is great with ham or turkey😊
Tongue and other organ meats are in reg. Ground Beef
That was so sweet. Your a lucky girl 😊
That’s so funny, I have chickens and I have seen so many double zokes😮 so many times! It seems to happen when the chickens are 1 years old.
We had Swansons in the can Chicken ala King over toast, biscuits or chow main noodle's. I loved it!
60 year old trying to make it on youtube…you're an inspiration…just subscribed!!!
My grandma kept different years of the southern living cookbooks and a few old southern cookbooks from different churches around the state from like 50s and 60s
My Mac n cheese is made with a roux first and the cheese is melted into roux.
Thomas Jefferson is responsible for the advent of Mac n Cheese, and I`m older than that book. The 50`s were the best.
Exactly the way my mom made it from the same cookbook. and we have the same book over our oven.
We have that same B,H and G book!!!
I`ve always had Chicken ala king over biscuits, but rice sounds just as good.
My mother made this, and taught my sister. Both of them are gone now, and I never learned how to make it. I am so glad to see this video. I do know that they both grated their cheese, and use the breadcrumbs on top. So delicious, everyone agreed. Thank you and can’t wait to make some for our next family event.
I have school book like yours. I fixed the cover as it was coming off.
Just made chicken a la king last week! Was excellent
I checked & the median household income for a family in 1967 was approx $500 a month!!
I have that cookbook!!! I used to make recipes out of it when I was in high school and for home ec we had to plan meals at home and share the recipes we used. I still have the cookbook which was originally my mother's.
I have made the Elvis sandwich a number of times. I love them!!!
The older pasta is the longer is takes to cook. Who knows how old it was even before it was packaged? Baking is the best way to use older pasta, like baked Mac & cheese or baked spaghetti. Lower & slower & it's still great
My mom made Mac and cheese just like that and I do the same. I cook mine for about an hour.
Love your cooking videos! I was born 1956 and I have always made Mac and Cheese this way. The difference is this: Stir it 2-4 times during the baking process; add extra "shredded cheese on top and paprika the last 10 minutes of baking. You might love it even more.

I too was born in 1951. My mom was born in the 1930s and said the 50s was great. I remember growing up free to play outside. We made up our own games, built forts, it was a blast.
