    You’ll laugh. You’ll cry. You’ll poop blood

Literacy sounds like a great thing for you to work on

  3. Read this in culinary school. Should be required reading for all cooks

Spent many mornings like this last year when I got my copy. No better way to read it, in my opinion.

There’s so much I didn’t understand the first time I read this. Would be nice to give it a reread 15yrs later.

I remember being this cringe at 18. It’s okay bud

Do yourself a favor and get rid of the cigs now

This seems like you’re glamorizing a lifestyle vs understand the long term effects

Starting a cigarette habit at 18 in 2024 is silly. Society hardly allows it in most places.

It’s a great book. I was coming up when it came out. Some of the ethos is now outdated. Don’t work yourself sick for anyone. It’s not worth it.

The earlier you quit smoking, the easier it’ll be. You will wish you’d done it at 18! (

Love to see a young person reading an actual book. Keep it up.

As a smoker, though… dude, don’t. This pic is trying so hard. Every smoker in here thought they would “quit soon” when they were 18. If you’re in the U.S., it’s a laughably dumb habit to pick up in 2024.

Hell yeah dude I remember being 18 and posing my cigarettes in my picture

Never grow up man. It only gets worse

  14. Hey man, I know we all joke about smoking, drinking and doing drugs but not one person in the industry would recommend to start such things. You’re still young, quit smoking while your young. It was one of the hardest things to do. I know you’ll have a bunch of people telling you to do so, but we only do it because we’ve made mistakes we don’t want other people to make as well. Trust us and plan to quit asap.

At least bourdain is/was man enough to admit he sucked

I started reading it sitting on the front porch of the restaurant I first really cut my teeth in.
I was taking a break before we were going to get killed (fully booked and short staffed).
I had been suddenly promoted to Chef de Cuisine, and was nervous as hell.

But upon cracking it open and getting to read for 15-20 minutes changed my perspective. I suddenly felt like a badass in a weird way. Like I was part of a family of pirates, and I was about to just crush that service.

The book changed my life forever.
    R.I.P. you Beautiful Degenerate Bastard

The audio book is good too. He narrates it. Same with Medium Raw.

Same copy I have. Also, probably my third copy from the others getting so worn out.
