I know I’ve said that Grilled Green Tomatoes are like 85% of the flavor for 10% of the work and I stand by that. It’s 100% true but messy, time consuming fried green tomatoes are still worth it when the mood strikes!

Pre-heat a cast iron skillet with (I used Avocado oil) like 2 inches worth or so. Medium/High heat

Breading:
1 Cup cornmeal
1/2 cup flour
1/2 cup panko breadcrumbs
1tsp Garlic Salt
1tsp Pepper
1tsp Smoked Paprika
1tsp Parsley
mix together

Whisk together 2 eggs and about 1/2 cup buttermilk

Slice Green Tomato into half inch ish thick slices

Dip Tomato slices into Eggs, then the breading mix (for Extra Crispy run it back to the Egg and Breading a second time) and then into the pretty hot oil awaiting.

Let your eyes guide you here. If you want them golden brown; flip them at golden brown, get the other side to golden brown and then remove from the oil to an awaiting drip tray or the ole reliable plate with a papertown (yeah we know it just sits in the oil blah blah blah). If you want them darker, leave them in a little longer, if you like them a little less golden, less time. They’re your fried green tomatoes.

I made a dipping sauce out of equal parts mayo and Heinz 57 with a sprinkle of chives. So simple and so tasty.
