How do my fellow Vegetarians feel about this it rubbed me the wrong way
I found this clip on my Twitter today and was Walz talking down saying it’s just a “phase” and I wanted to share this with the forum. Non political opinions but anyone feel like they got slapped in the face?

💯 I’ve been a vegetarian since birth. It’s not a phase. I couldn’t just become a meat eater even if I wanted to. If my fries are fried in oil that has too much fried chicken/fish crumbs…the stomach problems are real.

It sucks that we’re dismissed for more ethical choices.

He’s pandering.

Playing to the crowd. It’s a joke.

I’ve been vegetarian for 10 years now. Not a phase.

You should see what Trump has to say about vegetarians
_BlueNightSky_
I’ve been vegetarian for over 20 years and this does not bother me at all.

I feel like he’s trying to thread the needle here – although why not just not mention it at all? Unless someone specifically asked him about vegetarianism?

Mid Western Boomer, political party does not matter this sums up the majority of them.

There are people in India who have been following a vegetarian diet for thousands of years. Is that a phase too?

I’ve been veg all my life and I’ve heard similar many times. I don’t really care anymore.

I mean, I think this is a joke about how meat-centered Midwestern culture is as opposed to him actually being unkind to his daughter. I don’t think I’d be offended if my dad said something like that, even though I’ve been vegetarian for almost a decade. It’s not mean-spirited.

Oh my god, you’re telling me he made a joke about vegetarians. What an absolute monster.

It’s nearly impossible not to get non political answers when you see politicians talk about things. Anything they say will be seen under a microscope through political lens. Having said, I don’t think he was being disrespectful or dismissive of vegetarianism on purpose. He was trying to be funny in a typical midwestern dad-type manner by making such stereotypical comments on stage in front of a bunch of people. He always makes fun of his daughter in a loving manner like that (I have seen several other video clips). But deep down, he respects his kids’ sentiments and encourages them to follow their own hearts. I’m (a vegetarian myself) not personally offended by his comments who was only trying to be goofy and funny. I’ve heard worse and spiteful rhetoric about vegetarians and vegans from everyday folks online and in real life as well. But that’s just me. Others may feel differently.

Why do we expect everyone to mirror our perspectives on so many things.
I have the same mindset when I am not careful, but I am trying to get over that.
Just relax folks.

it’s a bad joke, he’s a dad who makes bad jokes. it doesn’t bother me and i don’t care.
donald trump recently said he wants to use the military to go after “enemies from within”, specifically mentioning “leftists”. that bothers me.

As a latina IDGAF. I already got my family telling me bullshit and I don’t take advice about my diet unless you are a medical professional. What else you got 😂
Not going to vote for Trump still if that’s what you’re asking. That orange potato has said and done a lot worse.

Honestly I wouldn’t have expected it to, but yeah, a little bit.

Guy sounds just like my dad, uneducated on vegetarianism, & very put off because it’s a different way of living ones life. My dad reacted the same way to my atheism.
Tim still has my vote, he’s not perfect.

I literally couldn’t care less

It’s a joke. If I was his daughter I would find it funny too.

People waiting to find something to be offended by. What happened to if it doesn’t apply, let it fly.
DirectGoose
When he was first announced there was another video of him teasing his daughter about not eating a turkey leg at a state fair (or something of that nature, I don’t recall exactly). It was pretty clear she knew he was joking and wasn’t upset. I am certainly unbothered.

If you’re offended by this joke enough to “feel like [you] got slapped in the face,” you must be whimpering through life. Or you’re just trolling here and trying to get people to feel apathetic about the election.
It’s a classic Dad joke. A quip playing to an audience of Midwestern omnivores. Not my thing, but I’m not offended by it at all.
achyshaky
I get the exhaustion, it’s an extremely worn-out “joke.” But it’s definitely not the sort of statement in politics that’s worrying me right now.
