It happens. Generally I just remove the outer bits, including the inner skin bit, and continue. Unless it’s mushy, in which case I bin it and move on to the next onion.
It has been happening more often lately. I think the delays in transporting produce because of Brexit have really degraded the quality of available produce in the UK. It’s a shame. The onions in particular have been suffering, but also peppers arriving just not as fresh as I’d like.
I already get two grocery deliveries a week, because I like my ingredients fresh, but it’s not enough right now. I even buy some stuff from a greengrocer (can’t get decent garlic in the supermarket at all), but it’s still sometimes not up to snuff.
Such a shame. When I first moved to the UK, I marvelled at how much fresher the produce was. Now… not so much.
