If the recipe says 1 onion then use 2.

If and only if you have one onion

Depends. My last pasta sauce was made of 10 large red and yellow onions, a pound of mushrooms and a half litre of cream and beef stock, respectively. Also shredded chicken.

For a Bolognese for example I’d use about 5.

Is it enough? For some people it may be, but the truth is that you can never have too many onions

Depends how much sauce you’re making, if I’m using a 28 Oz can of whole tomatoes or about 10 fresh plum tomatoes, one large onion is plenty; the size of the onion and variety of tomato also matters.

It’s enough sauce for the sample taste. For the actual sauce you’ll surely need more.

Are you making a cup of pasta sauce? Then probably.

Baby you need to mince that onion. Tiny, equally sized pieces.

But also… More. I’d do 1.5 yellow onions for a sauce.

I put in two medium sized onions into a 400g sauce.

Is this post rage bait?!?! Ahhhhhhhhh!!!!!!

  12. ChildhoodLeft6925

Please learn to cut an onion, it’s disrespectful to our beloved onion that you’re doing this

It looks like you’re just getting started.

    This is the OnionLovers sub..

    No amount is enough

  15. PelagicMonster

I personally use about 2 or 3 for a small batch of sauce. But you should also evenly mince your onion so it cooks better and the flavor is distributed throughout. The more onion cell walls you break, the more onion flavor there is. If you cant get it thin enough by hand, you can use a food processor

  16. Upstairs_Balance_793

That looks like a very small onion

  17. Reckless-Redditor

Are you really asking this sub that question??

  18. prakkattack96

This has gotta be rage bait…obviously use more

  19. a_hockey_chick

Depends on the sauce. I basically triple/quadruple the onion amount in a recipe like chili, but in spaghetti sauce, double is probably enough.

  20. TheGrouchyGremlin

How much does the recipe call for? Use 50% more minimum. 2x as much is good. Anything above that is a bonus.

Take two onions, throw them in the trash. Mission accomplished!

  22. Keitt58

I almost hate to say how much deliberation the frugal side of me debated your question,(all while debating onion powder as a substitute) but remembered onions are cheap as fuck, so as many as needed seems acceptable.

  23. Physical-District647

Ray Charles cut that onion with his feet

  24. Physical-District647

I cut 2 onions before I cut 2 onions, and then I cut 2 more

  25. butterybuns420

My grandmothers recipes always called for 1 chopped and 1 halved onion in every pot of sauce.

  26. genericimguruser

I usually do 1 large onion per pound of sauce 😅

That’s a fucked up way to cut an onion. Also no.
