Hey friends! My company, Sous (the “Rover for Personal Chefs”), just launched in LA, and we would love to have you check it out. You can hire chefs on Sous to come cook in your home for meal prep (where the chef cooks in your home and stocks the fridge for the week), or special occasions (usually birthdays, anniversaries, etc.)
Meal prep is perfect for busy parents – you can have a professional chef cook in your home and eat your ideal healthy diet.
The average price for meal prep for a family of 4 who wants 4 entrees per week (16 servings total) is $278 (plus groceries are charged separately). So this can be a great replacement if you're trying to eat healthier and stop ordering delivery.
We have some really exciting local talent on the platform including chefs with executive chef experience, several who worked in Michelin star kitchens, and one chef who worked for Massimo Bottura at Osteria Francescana (3 Michelin stars).
You can find a chef in LA at https://www.sous.so/. Here are some of our favorite local chef's profiles to check out:
- Octavio Monzon, Executive Sous Chef @ Fanny’s, formerly of Vespertine (2 Michelin star) – $53 per hr
- Cristian Ortiz, Former Chef de Cuisine @ Superba Hollywood – $42 per hr
- Alexis Ducker, Mentee to Marcel Vigneron (Top Chef Runner Up) – $41 per hr
- Eric Cherdak, Owner of Bottega Taboo, Worked under Massimo Bottura at Osteria Francescana (Michelin 3 star) – $54 per hr
Let me know what you think and feel free to AMA!

This is pretty interesting. I’m just curious as to why you chose the model of cooking in the customer’s home, vs just preparing meals bespoke to the customer in a commercial kitchen? Is there an expectation of social interaction between the family and the chef? Are there potential issue with kitchen tools being available, kitchen cleanliness, etc?
Somebody recently posted in r/losangeles wanting this exact service and then you come through with it. Very cool. Also, gives those chefs working lines in a kitchen a bit more exposure and more $ in their pockets.

Pretty cool! Would they be able to do a small event? Like a micro wedding (less than 15 people)?
Does the chef buy groceries and bring them to you? based on the menu you create? Or do groceries need to be bought ahead of time? Can you work with the chef to create a special menu?
Interesting concept. Good luck!
I’ll do it for 20 an hour but I’m not a pro chef
Vow. That is nearly 300$ is 75& an hr for making 4 different meals for 4 ppl? You folks keep 25 an hr? Plus groceries atleast 100$ assuming you have all spices & ingridients? And who does the cleaning or the prep work needed? Tips n others? 25$ per entree / per family member. And that barely lasts a day. I am easily looking at 100k / year for food.
Just downloaded. Will try soon.
Really cool concept man!
I’ve actually been wanting to try a private chef just to see how it is after watching competition cooking shows and salivating at their dishes. Wouldn’t have really known where to look, so this is really neat!!
This is a great idea, and one I’m interested in.
So I have a better idea of the costs, what is on top of the hourly fee above? Is there one of more services/app fees and are we expected to tip? As for the cost of the ingredients, do they charge you for those after they go shopping, you set a limit, can they use the ingredients I purchase?
Thanks!
You should charge more for chefs of that calibre.
Are you just in LA or would you consider doing a Milestone Birthday event in the OC?
What if you’re single and want like 4 lunches and 4 dinners?
