I just pulled these jars of chick peas out of the canner and they all have clean lids/rings except this one in the front. What’s all this grime and why would only one top be affected by it? And I suppose, while we’re here, how do I prevent this in the future?

Acid?
Something got spilled on it. Maybe something acidic, maybe soap, maybe just aquafaba. If it seals fine it’s probably just cosmetic. If you’re worried about it, put it in the fridge and use it first.
could have had some siphoning, and the proteins from the chickpeas burned
The words ball sure tight are missing on only that lid despite the other markings being the same.
The lid on can in the very back on the left has a smear of the same material.
The black marks range from being small dots to thin and transparent and looks to have been deposited by water.
The Ball silk screening on that jar dissolved in the canning process that’s all it’s ink.
