I've been struggling with my scoring lately, using my basic lame where the blade is mounted with a curve. I'm certain it's just a technique issue, but I think the curve makes it easier for the blade to snag if you don't get the angle of attack correct. I was interested in trying a lame that holds the blade straight, and decided to try to make my own.

I haven't really done anything like this before. I also didn't really plan it out much ahead of time, just started trimming away bits of wood slowly and went through several iterations of what I thought it was going to turn out like along the way. I do like the way it looks, but it's a bit fidgety to put the pieces together and get everything aligned. I have not tried scoring bread with it yet, which of course is the most important piece of the puzzle. Here's hoping it makes my scoring a bit more accurate with fewer snags along the way.

Nice job. I like the angle of blade and the “contact” area of the blade better than mine

Baker of Seville, the blade can be mounted curved or straight but either way that leading corner always snags. I’ve had a wooden round magnetic one but couldn’t get the blade to stay in. Then tried some box cutters with the blade that snaps off in section and some scapel style knives but they were worthless

What a good idea. Looks very professional.

No scoring tips from me personally as I haven’t even scored my first loaf yet lol. YouTube has some really good videos about this though as I have watched a few already.

It’s all about the angle 📐 or something I don’t know something like 45 degrees or something one video was saying. Boy this rabbit hole runs so so deep. I’m gonna need a bigger notebook 📓

Very cool! What kind of wood did you use? Any stain on it?
