First time making grilled cheese. Used left over garlic butter (with coriander and hot pickled chillies), white sourdough bread and mature cheddar. Left was made on a frying pan and right was in the air fryer. Air fryer was better.

In the UK it’s a cheese toastie
i_live_by_the_river
And you call them grilled cheese despite the fact they are obviously fried?

The leftover garlic butter is an incredible idea, here’s me using normal butter. Thanks for the idea, also who cares – grilled cheese, cheese toastie, we know what you mean

I love the side-by-side, empirical approach. I wonder how the same sarnie prepared on cast iron might fare?

Panini press for the win
(Or…. One sice of bread and put in under a real grill)

Did you wrap in tin foil in air fryer or just place in carefully? Looks good! My old housemate took the foreman grill:(

Why would you compare a frying pan to an air fryer, out of interest? The clue is in the name (GRILLed cheese), surely.
Either way, looking tasty!

I love a cheese and ham toastie.I use a bit of, butter with some mayonnaise, it really adds a nice brownness to the bread when toasted in a pan.

I’ve tried toasted sandwiches in an air fryer. The bread toasts too much and the filling doesn’t toast enough. What settings do you use?

What happened to just bread & cheese under the grill ?

Why call it a ‘grilled cheese’? Would you call a ham toastie a ‘ham’ or a tuna toastie a ‘tuna’?

I note that neither Breville nor the funny little Kevlar bags that you put in the toaster were considered comparators in this trial.
I would recommend the title of this research paper to be “A direct comparison of the two shittiest ways to make a toasted sandwich: a research based attempt to make air fryers sound less wank’

Doesn’t look grilled, just looks like a toastie to me

You should fry on a pretty low heat on a pan if you want an even toast, also press down on the bread a bit/ use a bread weight so the edges toast too.
Dismal_Birthday7982
No grilling there. It’s just a shit toasty
time_on_target
They look good… needs a cross-section pic of both, showing the stretched cheese 😎
