Incorrect. It's not "corporate greed." It's inflation. Don't blame the producers and providers. Blame the government, who neither produces nor provides ANYthing.
Why DONT we use Red Vines instead of straws? Throw that away, and the ants will make it disappear…
Personally, I go to Publix for the most part and about twice a month go to Whole Foods and Trader Joe's for ky meals. The Aldi by me does not have good meats and fruits, so I skip it completely.
Food is an industry that is heavily regulated. Why were there countless top food industries with fires? Why are farmers told to throw away millions worth of goods? This is greed, not inflation. I hate that my income changes for inflation, and it can't keep up with real prices.
Inflation rate is based on commonly purchased items from the 70s, it is old news, and doesn't even include gas. Government economists are lazy, they have the stats, but they want certain common items to be the "inflation".
There is no middle class anymore.
A fancy store around me is publix. Bought a pound of frozen mango chunks for some adult beverage making for $26. When it would’ve cost me $5 for 2 pounds.
This Justine, Josh just doxxed himself.
I miss fancier or niche grocery stores since i moved from a big city to a small Midwest town. Aldi is our fancy store and i love it😂 as much as i miss fancy stores, I'll never understand Erewhon lol
No dude i did not in fact understand that the factors in a kitchen could literally change the way the food tastes when its finished or its cooking time. The recipe people didnt make that clear at all! This makes me feel so much better about not being able to make my moms recipes exactly like her. Im not in her kitchen with her utensils and appliances xD
Gwynned's mouth is one of legend.
Absolutely based Gwenydd, this has nothing to do with inflation. Josh asked for the solution and the solution is a sharp reduction in corporate profits, especially on sectors capitalizing on necessities
It is true Aldi is very plain looking but their stuff is good. Trader Joe's is also great but you are right their image is just more inviting
That olipop stuff tastes absolutely horrific. All of the probiotic sodas or seltzers taste horrific. Like I'm drinking poison or something that has spoiled.
hearing it from another voice, cooking sounds so approachable. home made bbq tofu on a coleslaw bed (go cabbage!) while watching the most recent Last Meals. thank you for the approachability and inspiration!
After all how much does one banana cost, Michael, ten dollars?
Whole Foods still does samples and peanut butter lol
@josh they sell wymans at Walmart for 9 dollars ❤️ well at least in Washington they do
Gwenydd is the best. Something about her personality is captivating.
I live in Dupage county, il. There are tooooo many kinds of grocery stores and i end u going to 10 different kinds. I have a Whole Foods, Patel brothers (Indian), H-mart (Korean), Park to shop (Chinese), Marianos (regular/slightly Italian), Caputos (regular/heavy italian), Fruitful Yield (vegan stuff), Jewel (old school regular), Walmart/target/meijer (half clothing/half grocery), Food market La Chiquita (Mexican), Naperville Fresh market (Eastern European/middle eastern), Petes Fresh Market (affordable Whole Foods), ALDI, Trader Joe’s, 20 small markets (Filipino, Pakistani, Kyrgyzstan etc)….oh and Costco/sams club, Amazon Fresh.
I am madly in love with Nicole
Erewhon seems like the Louis Vuitton of grocery stores – not intended as a compliment.
I LOVE going to the Pig😂 I even have a shirt. Ingles is also such a sweet place, it feels like a traditional small town grocery from back in the day. It’s a blast
I like to follow a recipe as well as I can the first time, and that especially helped when I was starting out cooking a lot, then I understood how things interacted over time, and now I tweak the recipe on further making based on how I want it to be or where I think corners can be easily cut that won't bother me. For baking, I think it's easier to just remember percentages. Baking at its core is about percentage ratios and you just have to hew somewhat close to that to get to the style of dough that's being described. Kenji was always good about emphasizing that. You don't have to remember how many grams or cups of something, just know at least the flour/water/yeast percentages and go from there and you'll be 90% on your way.
Shout out for correcting corporate greed!
josh is right. recipes with measurements do not teach people how to cook. Once I stopped following recipes, my cooking got so much better.
Wiley Wallaby is amazing. It was my sympathy pregnancy craving. Some people don’t know that but yes, men can get cravings too and I don’t have an explanation.
Trader Joes and ALDI are owned by the same company. Olipop and Poppi are two separate entities, neither of which are owed by Erewohn.
Who fact-checks this?
This is a bit disappointing. You guys all seem so wildly out of touch. Maybe there’s redemption in the latter half, idk, decided to watch something else at that point. Median household income is something like 80k in the US, 90k in Cali. I kind of expected this to go into the ideas of conspicuous consumption, how food price increases have outpaced inflation, classist elitism and how topics like that relate to stores like this and food in general. But those ideas are just getting a sentence or two of lip service, then the rest of this is just “omg, aren’t these prices so crazy??? Anyways, I bought it and plan to keep buying it, lol!” Usually you guys have some really interesting knowledge or thoughts on a given topic and this just wasn’t it.
Yes, more Aldi!!!!
I try to wait to get my beef until it's 2.99 but 3.99 is a more regular price at the foodlion
Steelhead salmon isn’t a thing. Steelhead are trout, they are deliberately mislabeling the fish to jack up the price.
My favorite thing about Erewhon is that my friend, who now works as a fashion coordinator in LA, once used her food stamps to buy lunch there.
