This is a Public Service Announcement. I in no way condone the $30 sandwich. The price was $26.50 plus tax and some obligatory fee, adding up to $30.

It was my first visit, but I guess the guy behind it is famous for something. To me the sandwich was decent, but not as good as the similar one at Bread Head on Montana, also in Santa Monica.

Thanks for trying it for the team. I’ll be sure to avoid the hype. 👍

    Damn. That’s one unappealing sandwich.

Burnt bread for 30$. Ha ha. What!? My gums are shredded looking at this.

It’s also $30 for a sandwich at Langers.

    LA is insane…

I do rate tre mani and will get downvoted for this probably, but that is the “tre mani” size which is like their extra large portion the “due mani” is less than 20 dollars and is enough food for an adult man in my opinion.

That’s a sandwich… with bread, meat, and cheese. And that’s $30? They don’t put no bourbon in that or nothin?

  7. TheSemiGreatGatsby

bro, gourmet or not, $30 is hilarious to pay for. idgaf how stacked my money is.

  8. 34TH_ST_BROADWAY

Man they must pay their employees so well! /s

  9. Is it cut into thirds? I might have to give it a try next time I’m on the west side.

I mean it was good, $30 good? No. Get the caprese at Bay Cities and add prosciutto. You’ll be happier

To paraphrase that other guy on the LA forums:

    “THIRTY UNITED STATES DOLLARS”

  12. wrosecrans

Two dollars of ingredients, and 25 dollars of fuck it’s expensive to operate a business in a place like LA because landlords would rather leave half their units empty than lower commercial rents.

  13. Tried this place once and never again. My salami sandwich had just a few slices of meat, incredibly tough greens, grape jam(!), and focaccia that was dense and hard. It was a total disappointment.

  14. anthrofighter

for $30 i want jamon iberico slices, white stilton gold cheese, white truffles, heirloom yellow tomatoes, organic butter lettuce, inbetween a 72 hour cold proof sourdough

  15. Erehwon needs to step up on their deli price competition.

  16. Dude you could’ve gotten a #19 with extra meat at Langer’s for that much and walked out with like 2 massive meals worth of top top tier meat

  17. bryan4368

Bet they still pay their employees the minimum wage

i’ve never been to this spot, but Bread Head is possibly the most mid sandwich i’ve ever had, especially considering the price. the bread made for a nice photo, but i was so disappointed once i took a bite. there was just nothing special about it, it tasted like a sandwich I made at home aside from the bread (which i did not actually like much, it was thin and felt a little stale). flavors were bland and muddled, aside from the muffaletta, which was WAY too heavy on the olives, they overpowered everything else and it was dumb salty. stay away from these gimmicky sandwich places and go to Langers

No, it’s not famous. You played yourself.

The only famous sandwich in Santa Monica is the godmother at cities, and it’s not 30$.

  20. After seeing this shit guess y’all can watch my socials for a pop-up where I’ll be doing these for sub-$20 and making them right, and well.

I spent formative time in Florence eating delicious panini like these chumps are poorly attempting/executing. I was young and had little money, but ate some of the most memorable food of my life there. It’s not that fucking hard to do simple, rewarding food well if you have standards. That’s it: Standards.

I’m on a rant, but seriously. I do not care if the restaurant was having an “off-day”. Anyplace allowing a $30 sandwich looking like this to go over the pass gives zero fucks, knows the public is largely hyped rubes, or both.

  21. ZimboGamer

My local deli does $6 sandwhiches that blow most out the water with fresh deli meats, artisan cheese, and home made bread. Its literally cheaper than subway and is better than most restaurant sandwhiches

  22. Ginko__Balboa

Sounds like the kind of place that has an employee health and wellness charge and an extra 4% for paying with a credit card.

  23. inspectortoadstool

Bay cities is down the street and they have the best sandwich in America.

  24. dbcooper4

Assuming this is the full size sandwich the pricing on Yelp looks similar to a full size sandwich pricing from Bread Head. I find the full size sandwich from Bread Head to be enough food for 1.5-2 meals.

  25. ILearnAlotFromReddit

That sandwich better come with some sucky sucky

  26. confoundo

Go to All’Antico Vinaio in Venice for that same style sandwich at half the price.

  27. DK_Sizzle

It’s probably a long walk to bay cities but about a 5 minute drive.
