No. Get chunjang if you want to make jjajang.

  2. ceeroSVK

Nope, completely different. You need chunjang black paste.

  3. Lethalplant

No. Only chunjang will work. I found it from Korean grocery market in US. I think UK has Korean grocery market,

Where are you from in the UK? I’ve seen chunjang in London

No. Add a spoon or two of that to make a bowl of soup. It takes a little getting used to, so start light.

If you don’t find the Korean sauce, get tianmiamjiang. It’s the chinese equivalent, and it’s used in zhajiangmian.

everyone commenting is trying to prevent this guy from potentially inventing a new noodle dish

No, and I know this from personal experience. (It was disgusting.)

Everyone is saying no but people have made jjm with doenjang successfully. It’s different but not so different that it won’t work at all.

No but with some clams and tofu you can make a lovely stew

I’ve seen some recipes that use doenjang, but you really need chunjang.

I’m in London and got chunjang from an Asian supermarket. 😊

That’s soybean paste. If recipe calls for soybean paste then use it

Looks like you got the wrong stuff unfortunately.
