Yesterday after my shift I ate half a bag of shredded cheese in bed for dinner.

I’ve been cooking for 45 years. I rarely ever sat down for a proper meal. 7 11 hot dogs were a staple!!

  3. ZoinksYo2221

I ate apple slices in a bubble bath last night. One of my bakers said I was gay. 😂

  4. Nickelsass

Many chefs or people in the culinary field don’t eat proper meals. All their efforts and energy are in the shift.

I generally i have a small deli container of 5 hour old and cold family meal, and inhale it while leaning over a prep sink. That’s if I haven’t had my nirmal diet of tequila and cocaine

  6. ArachnidMother7211

Cold soup out of a pint container and chunk of cheese

  7. BlondeAxolotl

Chef here. My diet is a mess too. I eat here and there every two days. Just don’t get that hungry. I graze.

Cold cuts , pickle and mustard is my goto still. Even after getting out. I will also still eat over the sink sometime and the bf will tell me to eat like a regular heathen and join him on the couch. I’m also not above eating pasties half frozen. Especially after tequilla

I was a chef for 15 years. I never got to eat anything I wanted too, busy working 18 hours a day, 7 days a week. You eat vodka, monster and cocaine, we’ll atleast that’s how it used to go…

I literally ate a slice of salami with some feta and some Quakers rice cakes when I got home from work today. Sometimes, I’ll pull out a spring mix container from Walmart and throw some olives and dressing on that if I’m feeling fancy.

  11. Literally almost all chefs that I’ve known when I’m still working in the industry did not have a proper meal.

They either eat instant ramen or stir fry using whatever on the fridge

  12. Former chef here, overall 20 years in the industry. My eating habits are getting better, but are definitely scarred.

  13. RezzKeepsItReal

Better than most of my meals which consists of caffeine, nicotine and hate.

  14. Given up trying to eat while working. Vanilla protein shakes, vodka and coffee over ice hits the spot.

  15. adminsarebiggay

Nothing beat a nice pb and j after working 14-15 hours

  16. AirmanProbie

I made pizza from scratch for my kid while I ate toppings.

this is why i’m glad preparing daily staff meal is part of my job. even if night crew is gonna get off at 11pm and go have chips and beer for supper, at least they got a bowl of chicken lemon soup or some beef shawarma at lunch.

  18. Just_call_me_Neon

I got off after 10 hours today and made a cheese sandwich when I got home. Don’t judge us lol.

  19. McJambles

A true chef grazes all day and drinks unhealthy beverages to unwind. I see a true professional here

Trust me, I’ve been in the industry long enough to tell you this (I’m not in the industry anymore): last night I ate half a pita with cheese and pickled onions, for lunch today I ate a bag of Doritos, for dinner I’m currently having a stiff martini. We can cook well enough to make you weak in the knees but rarely ever eat that well ourselves.

Sometimes all you need at the end of a long shift making amazing food for other people, is a bowl of cereal. Hell, maybe even two bowls of cereal.

  22. Adhdpenguin813

I just ate frozen bacon cheese fries after a 15 hour day. That’s a pretty good one tho. Always have pizza rolls ready, or when I’m really feeling it I’ll get a cookout tray of all beef quesadillas.

Oh and of course vodka and a bowl pack.

  23. Pillsbury37

on a good day I was able to sit and drink a cup of coffee and eat a piece of toast. on a bad day, I washed down a handful of advil with some cold coffee

  24. joshuajosh88

The last thing I want to do after a 12 hour shift of cooking is go home and cook again, so I feel this on a personal level.

  25. Deathlordx55

Some beer vodka, and the sammich I made yesterday and never got to eat on shift

  26. yeah, we don’t eat real food . usually a drive thru move after a shit load of drinking .

  27. ChrisFromAldi

Cigarette and coffee for breakfast, then maybe some instant ramen for “dinner”. I cook all day, I don’t want to keep cooking when I get home.

Sous chef messed up and made an extra four cheese chicken risotto (forgot to leave the chicken out) so I called dibs. He cut up an inhuman amount of spring onion and put it on to heat for me, dumped it in a container as I was walking out the door, exchanged it for a pan of red velvet cinnamon rolls I fired by accident. I gave him a full deli cup of cream cheese frosting to put on them.

Man sorted out my love for spring onions and cheese, I can sort out his love of frosting. Solid exchange. Ate mine in bed without pants on 5 minutes after I got home.

My fiancé was a chef for 15 years before he had enough of that shit and had to change paths, and my takeaways are:

1 – no time to eat a meal when on shift

2 – too tired post shift to cook a real meal

3 – cigarettes, coffee, and drugs sustain you for a long time.

  30. It’s not a proper meal unless it’s over a garbage can.

  31. Poochmanchung

Staff meal is dope and important. Make food for each other! That is how restaurant workers eat well.

  32. halper2013

Hahahaha noooooo why was a small bag of cool ranch doritos my meal after work yesterday like your bf 🤣🤣🤣💀😭

  33. fildoforfreedom

At least he wasn’t standing over the trash eating once (long ago, but not now) hot food.

  34. allpraisebirdjesus

Why do the cobbler’s children always lack shoes?

  35. Tailor_tots

This is such a weird question but your boyfriend’s name isn’t Sean is it? He is an absolute dead ringer for a long-ago friend of mine
