Looks medium/medium rare, if that’s still too pink that’s their problem.

  2. It is done just right for me, but is under cooked for them apparently. Typically when cooking a steak for someone else, I would get their preferences and cook it the way they want it.

Everyone has their own personal preferences. Most people tend to like medium. So while you like medium rare, maybe they don’t.

It’s not like there’s any one objectively right choice.

Steaks suck for big gatherings. Someone inevitably has a problem with a perfectly cooked steak. I don’t cook steaks for large groups anymore because of it.

  5. stonerghostboner

I hope you asked them politely, but firmly, to leave.

thats a little too pink for a general group. a little over mid rare is the way to go, and understand some people cant eat rare meat, and just flop that puppy back on the grill.

  7. This is why you don’t take steaks to parties.

  8. When cooking for parties I’ve found success in making rare -> medium available to folks or just taking orders beforehand as I usually can only cook 3ish at a time with precision.

Those steaks look beautiful though imo.

My play for parties is to get a big steak that tapers, like a skirt or something.

Then when it’s sliced, there’s a range of donenesses for everyone.

If it’s a leaner meat, thinly sliced bro. But it looks good. If they want tender just give them thinner slicers. If it’s a rib eye with tons of fat of course we want medium, medium rare with a big chunk to bite off. Certain meats require different approaches

Know your guests or cook chicken mate.

Lots of people don’t like medium or cooler beef. I think they are wrong… But I’m guessing you didn’t invite them over to make that point.

Whenever I have people over and I’m planning to cook steaks, I always ask the doneness preference, then I’ll write out a little time table so I can cook everything to the proper doneness and still have them all complete at the same time. Easy peasy…. But mostly I’ll just cook chicken if it’s a large group.

“But what if someone wants theirs well done?

We tell them politely yet firmly to leave”

When cooking for a group it’s always a challenge to get steaks how each person likes it

Usually medium rare to medium is the safe bet

Steak looks great to me but can see it being too pink for many people

  14. beckychao

Unfortunately, most of humanity eats their steak well done. This is abomination to chefs and steak enjoyers, but it’s the truth.

  15. bcahill13

These look phenomenal- don’t listen to people with bad taste

  16. huhuhuhhhh

Nice going bro😂😂😂 Served up some Moo’s AND boo’s 🍅 haha raw ass steak, salmonella all over that shit dude

  17. All the jokes and opinions aside. Lots of people can learn from this.

As a private chef who often does steaks for large groups of people (20+), there are two ways in general I attack this problem. Number 1 and by far the easiest is to cook to varying degrees of doneness then slice and serve buffet style. You can accomplish the same thing as well if you are serving plated style if you know or ask each individual person their preference. If this is not an option or preferred but still want plated, then cook one or two rare then the rest medium and maybe one more well done.

  18. trasheusclay

For large groups, I cook most steaks closer to well done, and I pull a few perfect steaks for the cultured non-savage attendees. 🤣

  19. mctallenbald

That sucks. Impossible situation for you. If you gave me a medium+ I would be polite but not a fan, but going mid-rare is a no win scenario too with a lot of people. Just know I would have been stoked to get that steak.

  20. Jeff01051965

I can only assume you responded with “I think you should leave now!”

  21. LordZillo

Man I’m sorry. If me and my two friends were there, all that perfect steak would be gone.

  22. TheseAintMyPants2

That’s a solid medium, I’d point those people to the microwave

  23. Obstacle616

Pfffft! You have to remember there are monsters out there that utter the words “well done” with relish! These are perfect!

  24. Loud_Substance6413

Oh well their loss more you and the others with good taste 😉

  25. I would split up my prep – medium to the left and medium rare to the right, and label the tray. Win win!

  26. PhilosopherFluid7680

I’ll come to the next gathering lol

  27. Pro tip, the people you know who will be picky, cut their steak in half after it’s perfectly medium rare and then grill the steak middle side down to brown it for a second. They’ll only look at the first cut in my experience and won’t even notice.

  28. fastbreak43

I won’t do steaks for big groups anymore. Too expensive to please everyone at different temps.

  29. inlinestyle

You should invite more deserving people to your parties.

  30. Wh1skey7ango

Honestly, steak is one of those things where you should ask people their preference. It varies too wildly to just assume everyone will eat it medium rare. What if you went to someone’s house, they didn’t ask you, and they served you a super well done steak because that’s how they liked it?

  31. obaananana

Souis vide them. Tell them about it. Fancy tech food. Everyone happy

  32. Oh well, now you got steak for days, for eggs, for tacos and sammys! Lucky you are… Guess you could set up a fondue pot for picky peeps next time… Lol

  33. F3artheB3ard913

Probably been said already but I’m not reading all the comments….they are wrong they are perfect

  34. Ok-Radio-321

    You’re still awesome, OP!
You’re so great that your friends felt comfortable enough to tell you how they feel. I think that is the mark of a good host.

  35. IronAnt762

Looks perfect. All the more for the ones who appreciate meat.
