I really liked Konstantin’s video and his approach to the statistics around the studies here. Everyone agrees excess is harmful, but I think the video highlights how poorly understood and confounding light / moderate drinking is and how there’s studies showing both positive and negative effects. I like his Nike swoosh example how one can’t straightline from sobriety to alcoholism with any more amount is worse and ethanol content is the only deciding factor.

    My takeaways are

    1. Light drinking so minute in effect compared to diet and exercise choices that it’s not even worth worrying about. 3 days or 3 weeks of life expectancy is basically no statistical effect compared to what they’ve found for walking 5000 steps or reducing sugar…
    2. Go with how you feel, if you feel hungover you probably dived into the unhealthy realm. If one type of drink makes you feel worse than another, then it probably is worse – like beer messes me up way more than wine, not sure why.
    3. Mix with food.
    4. What else are people doing instead of alcohol? There’s a neo temperance movement trying to make alcohol go the way of cigarettes in making it the cancer drink, but if people are doing edibles or ginormous nootropics stacks instead, I simply don’t believe the risk factor is wholesale less with those. That’s why I don’t like the temperance movement approach because it black and whites everything and I believe people overindulge on the ‘approved’ categories.
