  1. Looks like some fun bottles. What’s the one on the left? Cute label

As I said in the title, this was a first for me. I’ve only ever bought wine at a grocery store or a liquor store, or I sometimes snag a bottle or two from my Dad’s stash of WSJ wine club bottles when I stop by his place, so going into a dedicated shop was pretty neat. I volunteered to buy the wine for my family’s Thanksgiving potluck this year, so I found there was a bottle shop/wine bar in my city so I decided to pop in and see what they had. We’re keeping it pretty traditional and are doing turkey and ham, so that was my main motivation to find things that pair well with those dishes.

Ended up picking a 2022 Gamay from Human Cellars in Eola-Amity Hills, OR

A 2022 Pino Noir from Brooks in Willamette Valley, Amity, OR

A 2023 Sancerre “Chavignolet” rose that’s 100% pino noir from Domaine Guenau in France

I’m guessing a 2024 (no year on any of the labels) Lumassina from Punta Crena in Liguria, Italy

And finally a 2021 Portalegre from Cabeças do Regueno in Serra de Sāo Mamede, Portugal

This is it. This is the way to get into wine. Take little notes on every single wine that you try, mostly source from small shops, and you’re gonna be an absolute wine nerd before you know it

  4. That Lumassina is great! Had a bottle a few months ago. It was really refreshing and had a very light effervescence to it (way less than Champaign or soda, just a mild sparkle). No idea why they make the vintage tough to find though!
